It will great to see how my BS varies through out the day and hopefully be able to fine tune readings during certain times of the day where I have the most trouble.
Any words of wisdom or tips that would help me get the best out of the CGMS would be greatly appreciated.
I can't wait until Thursday!

I attended "pump school" yesterday and currently have my ping hooked up and running saline. I am supposed to start insulin on Monday.
So far I cannot stand being hooked up to the thing. Sleeping is a nightmare. I'm not concerned about the device, but depending on where the infusion site is, I am unable to sleep on an entire side of my body.
Next, in 24 years of being type 1 I have never felt like I was a "sick" person. Sure, there have been times I have felt unwell, but diabetes has always been more of a lifestyle than a disease to me. I know diabetes is all about compromises: eat this, don't eat that, etc.. and that's fine, but having this thing hooked up to me all day makes me feel like a sick person and has increased the number of compromise I have to make 10 fold. Now I not only compromise on food, exercise, etc.., but I have to compromise when I sleep. get dressed, pull my pants up, etc. Its ridiculous.
I know it has only been 24 hours, but I can honestly say its been the worst 24 hours of diabetes I have experienced thus far.
Also, I understand because I am only pumping saline and still on MDI right now that I am experiencing all of the cons with none of the pros, but I really cannot imagine that there would be anywhere enar enough pros to outweigh the numerous cons associated with having this thing hanging off me all day.
Sorry to vent, but I was really excited to try the pump out and it has been a huge let down so far.

p.s. my diabetes educator says I need to use comfort short manual insertion sets. I am not a fan of manually jabbing myself with an inch long needle. Has anyone else experienced this type of suggestion? She says a 90 degree set will surely kink.

So I've been on the Ping for about a week, and I am very impressed thus far. IT is really easy to get used to using all of it's features, and it has made life a lot simpler (waiting around to take basal insulin at night vs. going to school to study for finals).

I just got the Dexcom 7+ today, and inserted my first sensor. I am amazed how comfortable they are! When I had the Paradigm CGMS, the sensors were huge and quite painful to insert. The dexcom sensor is tiny, and I don't even notice it. I'm waiting for the 2 hour initiation period to complete, and can't wait to see what this combination does for me!

On a side note, how long are people using the sensors? The FDA only approved them for 7 dayd (obviously), but I've heard of people getting a month out of them. Care to comment about your experiences?

i will probably have to order my supplies sometime in January or February and of course my deductable will re-start again. Is the normal just paying out of pocket full price for the supplies? This really sucks because its not cheap for these supplies.

I guess i just wanted to know how everyone else does their process? For PING users, do you order straight through Animas or somewhere else? This is my first time and im not educated on how the whole insurance thing works.

Thanks!

I am very fit. Have virtually no body fat. I do a ton of muscle training. I am finding that I am getting great absorbtion in this area but the sites are quite painful most of the time. I have no fatty areas on my legs or behind. Any suggestions? I also scar pretty badly in this area.
Am I just going to have to continue enduring the pain seeing as this is the only area with even a little bit of fat?

I absolutely love the interface, the features that I've had time to play with, and the entire system overall. The insets are teeny, and I couldn't feel it going in at all. I am so happy to be back on the pump, and can't wait for my Dexcom system to come in to perfect my settings. This is going to make life so much easier, especially when clinicals start.

Does anyone know where to get the OneTouch Ultra strips for cheap?

Thanks!

I'm down to 3 boxes of Comforts. I do have 4 boxes of Cleo's but they don't always stick.
Maybe I should just upgrade pumps. :(
