Checked my bedtime BG at about 2 hr PP.

1st test = 341 ... grrrr..., especially since @ 1hr PP it was @ 255
2nd test (within 1 minute!) = 297

okay... try a third to confirm.

3rd test (again within 1 minute) = 282.

... I just dropped my BG by 59 points by testing three times!!!! .. WTF, mate?!??!

if my math serves right, that's easily +/- 10%!!!
... Do I need to check my BG three times if I want an accurate result?

:mad:FRUSTRATED:mad:

I do have a question: My trigs are 46, LDL is 105, VLDL 9 which all seems good, but HDL is 100. Doctor is not concerned...should I be?
I don't plan on having any kids for this reason, unless they find a cure or a way to stop the disease before it starts sometime in the future. I can't believe someone with diabetes would want to have a child that they could very possibly pass it on to, yet people do it all the time. What are your thoughts on this? I feel slightly resentful towards my parents for making the decision that they did, which is why I'm making the decision that I am.

I am a type 1.5 and use basal and bolus insulin. I'm actually doing a trial study on a new basil insulin which is unbelievable! Every now and again I have "episodes" I will call them where I feel very poorly. Blurry vision, usually feeling hot, just generally very poor. I had these with my last insulins that I took also. My BG's on my new insulins are great but am still having the same things on occasion. I've checked my BG when I've had them and there is no patterns, it could be 160 or it could be 90??? I'm thinking hormone imbalance once in awhile. My mother had lots of these things for years before they figured out a hormone imbalance, she is not diabetic. My Endo is open to the idea. Does anyone else have these spells? If I sit for 20-30 min and do nothing else (no food or drink) I feel great almost all the time and go the rest of the day with no problems. Any thoughts??

I have had many problems with scar tissue and very slow or zero absorption after bolusing. What happens to that insulin? It is in my body but it is not initially absorbed so I spike. Does that insulin eventually get absorbed very slowly or does it not get absorbed at all? There have been times that I had partial absorbtion and I had to do some small correction boluses. On other occasions there seemed to be no absorption at all and I had to do a large bolus at an alternate location. When that happens, where does that initial bolus end up? If it is tucked away in scar tissue it seems to me that it would eventually find its way into my body and lower my BG, but it is not happening that way. I have had to learn where my scar tissue, from 61.5 years of injections, appears on my body. I have permanent scar tissue on my upper abdomen. I have now pumped for 30 months and I know where I cannot place my sites.

My endo tells me I am insulin deficient and insulin sensitive and I now have to go on multiple injections during the day. I have thyroid disease, but because I do not have any gads antibodies, he classifies me as a Type 2 insulin deficient diabetic, but saids he needs to treat me as a Type 1.5.

I was given 15/1 carb ratio to start.........and to tell the truth, I am nervous about this. Any advice, please?

Thanks

Just got the results of the latest A1c and it came in at 5.3. My MD brought his staff into the exam room to have me explain how I got to this level in such a short time.
I posted earlier this year that I read Berstein's book 'Diabetes Solutions' and started in with his recommended very low carb diet Feb 1st. My A1c test at the start if the new diet, Feb 2, was 6.3, not bad.
May 1, 2009 5.7, Aug 11 2008 5.6, yesterday 5.3%.
I think the diet is the biggest factor. Has had a remarkable effect on my control. I consume far fewer calories and take a lot less insulin. My TDD runs between 18 and 24. Basal rate is now set to 11.5 units per day. With the lower level of on board insulin I do not feel those familiar hunger pains and I don't go into the deep lows anymore, although I am not exempt from running low at anytime.
I really do hope to maintain this A1c level and it looks like I should be able to. The diet is easy, just meats and cheese with a serving of non starchy vegtables. The CGMS seems to work best when my bg levels are not moving up or down very fast. Almost makes me feel like a normal healthy person again. That is until I go low or high...
Before the diet started I was not taking hi doses, but the my basal was running 18- 20/day and the TDD was closer to 30. The percentage change is significant.
The other part I added was to finally get a CGMS. Have found this to work well for me. I use it to keep the bg line as flat as possible. A day with no up and downs in the bg line is a good day. Printed a Carelink and it read my average bg over the last 15 days was 93 and only one excursion to the 200 level. The alarms on that machine are invaluable. I have it set not to alarm if my bg goes over 110, or below 72. Have found it will usually rise or fall slowly enough so that the CGMS catches it before it gets very hi or very low. For example early this morning it woke me a 3 am with a low alarm. Read 72. I tested with the meter and it told me 65. Nice not to have to stumble around with a real low.
I would recommend to any diabetic the Berstein Diet. I know there is an ongoing controversy with the low carb approach, but as he wrote this is the best we can do until someone comes up with a cure.

Ok, so for the 4th night running i've just woken up for the 3rd time tonight drenched in sweat and shaking like ****. Checked my sugar, lowest its been all night, 0.8.

Was only diagnosed in March this year, was in hospital 2/3 weeks ago with DKA. If my sugars aren't ridiculously high, they're low and its starting to control my life rather than me controlling it. I always have a bedtime snack, usually porridge with fruit or wholemeal toast to try and get me through the night but obviously not working.

I've been on a zillion different antibiotics since the start of september for a chect infection that won't budge, was taken off them last week, could this be affecting sugars?

Any advice for a hypo free night?

i really dont think there is anyone i can talk to to help predict where my sugars will be (doctors will probably know even less than me about how it will affect me). I really wish that it would be easy to start a sport like most people. (sure, we're all out of shape but that is relatively easy to fix.)

o well, Wish me luck for this season :)
