Hi! I didn't want to hijack anyone else's thread - so I decided to start my own even though the subject matter is similar to some other's I've read. :)

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy with the 3 hour test. So when I failed the one hour test last time, we just skipped the 3 hour and treated for GD. I'm pregnant again now and failed the one hour test. I decided to skip the 3 hour - but now I'm not sure I should have done that.

When I wake up, my numbers are always between 70-80. As long as I eat at home and eat regular food - I can have what seems to be large amounts of carbs and even some sugar while keeping my readings below 130 at one hour. I went to a Mexican food place today, had enchiladas, rice, beans and a tortilla and was at 136 one hour later.

I've had a real issue with my numbers dropping to 80 around 3 hours after a meal and having the shaky yucky "low blood sugar" feeling. I have that feeling and then test to see where I am, and it's always in the low 80's or 70's.

I thought it was supposed to be hard to keep your numbers down when you have GD?

i am 13 weeks preg now and my doc asked be to monitor from the start. my new meter (ultra 2) gave reading like 143 and 140 when one touch older model gives reading like 114 and 118 with in 5 mins of chking. is my ultra 2 giving errors???
Another day when i checked my reading twice in one touch ultra 2 i got 140 and 130 ( 10mins later). Can blood sugar fall quickly in 10 mins??

I am worried coz there are days when my bg has been 80-90 after a meal?? I never had any fluctuations in my previous pregancy. In my previous pregancy I can give an account of my high sugar based on portion control, high carb or just having a small dessert........:o). This time I am having surprises quite early in pregnancy. Do u think I have GD now itself? My H1ac was within normal range?

I just got an Email from my youngest daughter, who is just over six months pregnant & has never had any issues with D.

"I hadn't heard back from the doctor's office on my blood sugar test from Monday so I called and just got a call back. She said that they like to see levels below 140 on the 1-hour test and mine came back a little high at 145. I now have to go in the morning and take a 3-hr fasting glucose test. Nothing except water after midnight tonight and they'll take blood when I get there and at every hour...ugh. I was so sure I was going to be in the normal range because the nurse practicioner was so confident and I've not had any issues. So much for that."

What is the best way for me to support her, now & if she gets a dx of gestational D? Do I need to prepare her for that dx?

I so didn't want this for her!! There has been no other family hx. Even in my two pregnancies, I had no problems! She is 31, though.
