Someone told me today there IS such a thing as a 'Carb Rule' for people with diabetes to use.

So here it is :

Blood sugar to rise 25% of the total carb intake.

Now to me it seems way too much an increase for the amount of carbs.

Your take on this?

It was a Great day because I was about ready to give up on this. I managed to lower my meds from 4 Diamicron MR to 2 . Went from .7 cc of Levemir to .3 I know I shouldn't lower meds on my own but if I ask endo she'll send me to diabetic nutritionist who advocates the Canada's food guide and that doesn't work for me.My glucose numbers will be too high and I'll gain weight. I hope this ketosis means I will lose more weight.

I keep trying to tell my endo's PA that the salads I eat every day for lunch do have a significant amount of carbs in them. And she keeps telling me there's no way any kind of salad has any carbs in it, significant or otherwise.

I eat a salad made with three ounces of mixed baby greens (2g net carbs), a dozen grape tomatoes (6g net carbs), a cup of sliced red onions (13g net carbs), a cup of broccoli florets (4g net carbs) and some Walden Farms dressing (no carbs).

That's a total of 25 grams of net carbs. More than half the net carbs (13g) come from the red onion. Do red onions really have that many carbs? I want to be sure of my facts before I tell the PA to mind her own business! ;)

She is going to be there for only 24 hours and will take a suitcase that she can stuff on my behalf. Any suggestions????

Holy cr*p, they have 26 gms of carbs per cup! That's only half the carbs of potatoes, true, but 12 times the carbs of cauliflower. I am so bummed! Be warned.

Alright, I'm quite naive about this, and while I've been doing some reading I consider you guys much more knowledgeable on this than me+book learning will ever be , so forgive the stupid question.

So, total carbs-fiber=amount of carbs something has that will have an effect on my blood sugar, yes? (just making sure I'm not completely wrong on the basics).

Now I love to eat Clif bars, so I've been trying to see how much of them I can eat without spiking too high. One whole bar gets me a little higher than I'd prefer, but half or a fourth a bar at a time is fine. The label goes as follows:

Those "other" carbs, are they subtractable? Seems kind of vague. I doubt they are because of how high it gets me(it wasn't as high as I had feared though), but I wanted to check with you guys.

I try to get as much fiber as I can. Even in large amounts, it doesn't affect my blood sugars. So I subtract all of them from carb total for the net carbs.

I will indulge in sweets with sugar alcohol every now and again. I try to stay away, but when I have the taste for something sweet, it suffices. And they don't affect my blood sugar either.

Fiber and sugar alcohol don't raise my blood sugar, but they do a number on your water bill if you know what I mean.
