If I were a Powerlifter and were thinking about getting an Omnipod,

where would you put it? (underarm, back of arm, calves)

Don't be shy.

Blunt and graphic would help.

When I get this thing I want to know where I should put it.

(I assume insulin helps muscles to grow or 'bulk' up. I may be right or wrong.)

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

I've dropped more than 90 lbs in the past year and am now at my optimal weight. I'm 5-9 and now at 157/158. Low carb lifestyle, about 4 hours of cardio per week (HR between 150-160). 1 hour per week of moderate weights for toning, not looking to bulk up right now. Generally happy with my physique, very happy with the way I feel... stamina/endurance very good and I feel very strong.

However, I am down to my very last trouble spots. I shouldn't worry about it because I've come a long way, but I guess as you reach goals you set new higher ones.

Anyway, I can see a six-pack lurking but I just can't get it to show. I have this stubborn pooch that I just can't get rid of. I don't think it's just excess skin, though it could be. But to me, it feels like a layer of fat. Not much, but enough that it bothers me a little bit. I haven't had a body fat analysis done lately, but I had it done when I was at 170 lbs and it came back as 11.9 percent. At 157, I'm guessing my body fat percentage is lower because I've done mostly cardio.

How do I get rid of this stubborn last piece of fat??? As I said, I do mostly cardio, but I also do weights... and I'll do from 2000-3000 crunches/situps per week. About 1000 pushups per week also.

Any ideas?

I have a few random musings for anyone who has a moment.
I completed my first half marathon on Saturday (2 hours 23 minutes--about 15 minutes slower than I had hoped.) The course had 4 water stops and they were out of water or cups on two of them and had limited supply on the other two! I was so upset because it caused me to dehydrate and have cramping during the race which caused me to be slower than planned. I was however, quite proud of finishing the race and on my BG levels. I started out at 155 (as was my plan). I took several readings throughout the course and my lowest was 99 and the highest was the 155 that I started out with. I consumed about 85 carbs during the race without bolusing. I would not have been able to do this without an insulin pump and modifying my basal dose to 50% for an hour prior and during the first hour of the race and then down to 33% for the rest of the race. I was so proud to check my BG at the end and see 127. (27 happens to be my favorite/lucky number hence the screenname).

Anyway, the race was beautiful weather and a gorgeous run around a lake and on a trail. The only negative was the water stations which led to the dehydration and cramping during the race. Following the race I thought I rehydrated OK, but I guess I was more dehydrated than I realized, because an hour afterward we left the race and stopped at a store. All of a sudden I felt like passing out. I managed to take my BG while slumped on a counter and was glad I was high (200) from intentional post race carb loading and not wanting to overdo the insulin. I managed to sit on the floor and my wife had 911 called. It ended up my blood pressure was dropping due to dehydration. The emts took my BP and it was 80/41 so I ended up going to the ER.

Of course since I"m diabetic they view me as a candidate for heart problems so they did an EKG and chest xray and all of that (can't wait to see the bills). Then they come to me and tell me my creatinine was high and protein was in the urine so they're concerned that I might have kidney issues. Of course those results were high because of the dehydration, but we don't know that for sure at the time. I've since followed up with my doc and retested and all the numbers are fine and my kidneys are still good (also my latest A1C is 6.5).

All this did cause for a couple days of worrying about my kidneys, as I waited to get new lab results, and pondering about how I want to do everything I can to make completely avoid or at least delay the day when I might get a test back that does say there are serious complications. And at this thanksgiving season, it's got me very thankful for my health and all the tools and knowledge available to me as a diabetic so that I can kee my BG under tight control and live a healthy life.

Next race, I'm carrying my water with me!

So, I want -- no, NEED -- to begin exercising. I can walk forever, but when I try to jog, even for just 15 seconds, I lose my breath and can't get it back. Every time I try, I have to end the exercise early.

Right now, my concern is lung strength, I guess. I had bronchitis a week ago, and it is lingering sadly. I can take a deep breath without coughing, so I know my lungs are clear, but ANY kind of activity, even climbing the stairs, can leave me gasping right now. Before the bronchitis, I could at least do that! I also still have coughing fits from exercise, and front switching temperatures rapidly (ie, walking into a warm house from the cold outdoors). I also get dizzy and feel like I need to lie down.

I know how to build muscle, I know to use cardio to strengthen the heart, but I have NO CLUE how to help the lungs. Any ideas?

Hi there,

I was wondering if any of you have had trouble with diabetic neuropathy, and might have suggestions of other things that are doable, and can make me stronger.

I do biking mostly now, stationary and regular because when I walk my legs get really tingly and sometimes really painful, where the bike riding makes my legs feel warmer.

I'm relatively bored with the same workout every day, but I don't want to stop. I also do weights 2-3 times per week, but overall I'm frustrated with my lack of ability to do walking, which I always found so relaxing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Angela
