Eye exam today

Had the old eye exam today...all is well D-wise, Thank God, however there is another issue. I've worn glasses or contacts since I was 9 years old..but I'm near-sighted. Well, apparently the close up vision is starting to fade, and it's all because of (cough, cough) AGE. He actually asked me if I wanted bi-focals! Excuse me....I'm 39...not quite there yet!
(I promise you I'm as mild as it comes...but this is the ONE area where vanity rears it's ugly head!)
So, I'm going back to glasses for a while to give the eye muscles a break and see if it helps. (It's either that or contacts with reading glasses...see above statement about vanity!)
In keeping with my usual self, though, I passed on all of the normal glasses and went for plum colored cat glasses! Nothing quite like standing out it a crowd!

I've never worn glasses, but I'm having difficulty focussing on my reading lately -- been on the bench so am trying to catch up on some stuff; any CSLA.net users out there?

I caved in yesterday and booked an appointment for the 27th.

Hi X-Menace!

I was wondering how old you are? I didn't start needing reading glasses until I was about 48. Now I can't even go to the store without my reading glasses. Oh, the golden years!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to get bifocals at 38! I got the progressive lenses, so no one can tell I have bifocals, they look just like my old glasses. They took about a week to get used to and made a tremendous amount of difference. I do a lot of computer work and doc said that probably contributed to my getting them so early. I say bite the bullet, get whatever it takes to make it easier to read the fine print.

I've noticed hubby holding the newspaper at arm's length on occasion, but he stubbornly refuses to get bifocals. They truly aren't that bad.

YaY on the good D health eye check up!

I've worn glasses for a little over 20 years now (22 when I started). I have astigmatism.

A year and a half ago I had to go to bifocals. Like princesslinda, I too, went for the progressive lenses (no-line bifocals). If you look at my profile pic, those are bifocals I'm wearing!

I REFUSE to wear lined bifocals, cuz well, I associate that with being old, and I ain't old yet! LOL

Cool to hear that your exam went well on your D checkup! I understand about not wanting bi-focals (i.e. for "vanity sake" ), but I really dig the glasses that you chose (or the description of them)! I'd love to see them! Plum colored? Too cool! Just think, if you still decide you want to wear your contacts, you can get some cool colored reading glasses, too.

I'll post some pics when I get them...hopefully Friday!
I've heard of the progressive lenses, hadn't really considered it. I'm going to see how this goes...I've decided I can deal with reading glasses if they are totally hip, so it's an open option. And he told me I can just take my glasses off to see up close, but I am SO blind without them...can't see a thing beyond say, elbow range...it's always made me very uncomfortable to have them off...I think it's a lack of control thing...I can't see so I feel vulnerable...weird...I know....

I think when optomologists look at the time to add bifocals is when it comes to the eyes inability to focus especially when a person wears glasses to correct vision far away like reading something on the board (chalk board, dart board, computer screen projected on the screen) sorry had to add a funny then try to refocus the eye back on the paper on the desk in front of you. The younger eye is supposedly more apt to do this without causing strain. On a lighter noter- My sone age 19 is strongly far sighted can't read without correction but his glasses are so strong that he can't refocus on the blackboard at school so he has to have prismed glasses to correct the astigmatism from an oddly shaped eyeball. He will need bifocals before too long. It is a common problem after 35 needing cheaters or reading glasses bought at dollar stores but I wonder myself how correct they acturally are. It is good to consult with an eye care professional.

Hey Grace Girl:

Ya, I was told that the lens of the eye starts to
harden a bit when People(even a lot of "normal")
are about 40 yrs. You can get the bi-focal that
you can't see.... ...okay, you can see the
glasses but the glass looks normal. Not certain
but as Linda mentioned they could be Progressives.

After my cataract surgery my Eye Specialist asked
if I wanted a perscription for them or one just for
reading. I said just for reading since I can see
far enough away and I didn't want bi-focals either.
But I saw my Sisters(they look Good) and I think I'll
take him up on it in Nov. when I have my appt.

Hakim's(I'll never go there again)messed up with my
prescription and glasses so I just picked up a pair of
reading glasses at Shopper's in June.

Plum cat glasses, eh? Well, I picked a pair(at Hakim's
which I took back since they messed up)of clear frames
with 4 rhinestones on the edges of the front and 5 down
the sides.

Not to worry, you're still Very young.
