lasik surgery

I was just diagnosed with diabetes, and the whole idea of living with this for the rest of my life is scary. I am worried about everything, especially my eyes. I don't have terrible vision, but it could be better. Is a lasik procedure an option for diabetics?

Hi David and welcome! I'm sorry you have diabetes. I'm T1 myself for 13 years, and I have no complications. I've been nearsighted since I was 9. Try not to stress too much. A number of years ago I think there were many elective procedures that were forbidden for people w/ diabetes. This is not the case anymore however. If your b/s is under good control, then you should be able to be a candidate assuming all the other factors are in place.

Nice to meet you,
HeatherP

My understanding is that it is an option as long as you are free from eye disease. But it is best to find out as much as possible beforehand. Like Heather I have had type 1 for 13 years, I think you will find it is not that bad once you get used to it.

Good Luck

Lorna
