... There is something I don't understand. If low sugar means damage to the eye, how come non diabetic people don't have damage to their eyes??!?

I presume "low" as in "going low"... not just ordinary

Marie, Non-diabetes people don't go low unless they are hypoglycemic, and then they are not normal.

Ashtur, you left out low blood flow out of your equation. So unless you have a major bleeder with low bgs there is no damage to the eyes, per the article.

That's interesting. My eyesight goes to **** when I am hypo. Everything gets very bright to the point where I can't read words on a piece of paper. When my BG is good, on the other hand, my eyesight is perfect 20/20 or better. When I went for my eye exam the doc said everything was great.

That's interesting if about contradictory to all the sort of previous advice about retinopathy being caused by highs.

I wouldn't call it a contradiction at all... it's just saying that if you already have damage (the stuff caused by highs we are all familiar with), then going low can aggravate it.

When my bg gets low, I get dizzy and have to blink a lot cause everything looks bright or weird. I would imagine that maybe lack of blood flow could cause damage just as much as too much (hyper)??? Just my opinion though. LOL :P
