Cool Has anyone heard of a retinal vein occlusion

I posted this under type ll and didn't get any response. It is really scarey I guess this has not happened to anyone else on the forum. It's also caused from hemorrhaging and you throw a clot . That blocks the artery behind the eye. It's so weird because my A1c has been in the 5's.I just started blood thinners for 6 mos. and Avastin shots. It almost makes me want to quit working so hard at staying in the 5's for A1C.

It sounds pretty frustrating. I can't tell you it will improve, but I know not keeping good control willl only make things worse.

We are with you on this.

Retinal Vein Occlusion

Even though I am not familiar with your specific problem, I have had my fair share of diabetes related eye problems. I found the following link regarding retinal vein occlusion:
Retinal Vein Occlusion.

Good luck.

You are quite welcome. If you are interested in another diabetes forum web site that has a very active membership discussing diabetic eye problems, go to Diabetes Daily:\Eyes - Diabetes Forum.

If we can't help each other, then what are we here for? I'll send you my bill shortly.

I have this in my left eye. happened about 3 months ago. I now have 20/400 vision in my left eye. I'm flying out of state to go see a specialist so he can get me back to seeing correctly again.

My Doc was very worried about how long I had it. He said something about the 3 month mark and if it didn't get better we started the avastin and 6 mos. of blood thinner to try to get blood flowing back thru the artery.Had one shot getting another first week of Jan. I keep my A1c in the 5's and have always had good control except the beginning I was 9 for 6 mos.Always 6's and 5's for the last 2 years.

has nothing to do with diabetes. It has to do with blood pressure. You can have perfect A1C's and that will not prevent this. This is caused due to to high a blood pressure.

I have a mass of small broken blood vessels behind the lens in my right eye. I don't remember being told it was a retinal occlusion but it might be. It sounds very much like what is described in Mark's posted site. I was told that surgery can remove the obstruction and the problem would be solved. He also said I could put it off if I wanted. I have put it off for a year. It is worse now, but not much. I also have tons of floaters in my left eye. Surgery can remove that mass too. I was told that neither of my problems was necessarily diabetes related. Breakage in small blood vessels is very common in diabetics who have poor control or who are long term. I have had diabetes for 62 years and my A1c's have been in the 5's for several years.

Gabby, did your doctor tell you that surgery can correct this?

Richard

No he did not. He did say when I am done with the Avastin shots I will have some laser. My blood pressure has always been controlled. I have been on BP meds for 15 years. It runs 110/69 usually never over 120/72. I see my Doc every 3 mos. religiously.I have always also taken my BP at home daily and never had it high. My BS are in the 5's.So who knows.
