| | | What's the difference... ...in EFFECTS (post-op) between the laser treatment used for the retina/back of eye (PRP) and "indirect" laser for the front? I am curious whether anybody has had different experience between the two, as far as visual effects and other (post-op).
Thanks! |

| | | By indirect I asume you mean panretinal photocoagulation.
prf had a much more severe impact on me. Consider I've had well over 3,000 blasts compared to under 200 on the back of the retina.
Blast for blast though, I'd assume the direct retinal blasts do more damage as that's the primary sight area. |

| | Well, all I know is that what I've been having (several times now) is the panretinal photocoagulation. My next one is different, the doctor says, because he will zap the ones near the front of the eye, and her referred to it as "indirect," so I would be lying back instead of being upright.
(I didn't ask him my question at the last visit, and I never called the office because I feel like I call them way too much to ask such nit-picky questions like this, which I'm not embarrassed to ask on this forum!) |

| | | Cool. I've never heard of lying on the back for laser. I would think it's much less damaging. |

I'm concerned about the sensation from the nerves in different area of the eye, as well as the visual effects. I'm sure it's nothing to get all worked up about, anyhow...no big deal I hope |

| | Or, how do you get from your left eye to your right eye? Via the nose bridge!
That one makes a little better sense, perhaps? |

| | | I asked my optho about this today.
Indirect laser is the same as regular laser. In fact it's the same laser machine. The diference is it's re-routed through a headset so they can aiminto the far reaches of the periphery.
It is more risky because the lens is not attached to the eye. Any movement by the patient can be very damaging. Therefore, the eye is frozen so that it can't be moved. |

| | I just had some laser surgery yesterday. Several months ago (maybe even longer, I loose track of time), I had "mild" laser surgery that was fast.
Yesterday, it took so long and so many blasts. Had to have this numbing shot in my lower eye lid that basically felt like one of my horses was standing on my eye.
This morning, my eyelid (upper) is very swollen, my eye is watering and is still fairly dialated. Not sure if this is normal???
I will be calling my eye doctor this morning and will not be going into the office for my client appointment as I look like a cyclops
When the doctor's office people were talking about what I was having done, I thought they called it PCR? But I am probably confused.
They took pictures including after dye was injected, prior to the surgery. It's probably the 4th set of pictures he's gotten of my eyes since I started seeing him around a year ago.
Any insight into if it's "normal" for my eyelid to be swollen and the eye still watering this morning (surgery around 11am yesterday). Am using ice pack and tylenol.
I think I may make a new thread, too...
