Side effects of Laser treatments

Hey everyone...
It has been about a month since ny last laser treatment and I was curious to know the side effects of the treatments. I have noticed my hearing is not the same and my mental ability is not as sharp. I am trying to pin-point it if it has anything to do with the lasers or could it be simply Diabetes. Has this happened to anyone?

I thought laser treatments could give you a hairy back...

seriously, I can't for the life of me imagine how that would affect your hearing, but your mental ability could be tied to your diabetes in general. This heat is not helping, I keep telling my wife that I feel like I have been exposed to the "Orb of Confusion" from Spongebob Squarepants these last couple days. How have your sugars been lately?

Call the dr who did the surgery and ask them. I'll try to look up some info as well.

Are u in that pineapple under the see, too?

My BS is great, weekly average is 110. No highs and , no LOWS!! (thank god& the 715)lol.

Hi Mars: As I mentioned before, I had the laser about 21 yrs. ago and I had no side-effects from it(except for the scar-tissue since I moved a few times when I saw the laser coming at me

...when people fool with my eyesballs

, and nightmares for about 1 month. That's it). My hearing was the same and my brain(in all its glory was fine).
As I also mentioned before, I did lose some memories, etc. when I was severely over-dosed while in hospital about 15 yrs. ago.

Asking
your Ophthamologist would be your best bet. Take Care. Hope you are
hearing and feeling better soon.

You know, i talk to my doctor about getting lase eye surgery and she said that it is not safe for me to have it done because of Diebetes. She said that because diebetic heal slower than usual that you will have a higher chance of damaging your eyes and most doctors wouldn't do it for me.

Of course at the time I was bumbed and thought that I would be stuck with glasses and contacts for the rest of my life.

For those of you that did the surgery didn't your doctor give you the warning?

I never got that type of warning. I went to an Ophthalmologist which 90% of his patients are Diabetic.

Im ok, My right eye is better but my left is really not doing too well

. I am looking forward to seeing the doc in the begining of Sept. Im due back for the check up.

I had lasik done six years ago, ala back when I was OUT OF CONTROL with my diabetes. I've had nary an issue, save fro nto bieng able t o seee the kyeboa rd...

Are you talking about lasiks or Retinopathy laser treatments?

Hi Pirate, as Youth mentioned, we may be talking about one surgery and you another.
We were talking about laser surgery to repair damage to the eye vessels
caused by uncontrolled Diabetes for some time, when we were younger and
unaware,uncaring, immortal, rebellious, etc. This surgery was done not necessarily to improve eyesight, but mainly to stall our eyes(my case left eye)from going blind. For that your Doc would want your sugars under as close control as possible(as they should be anyways)so they will heal well. Other than that point there, was no warning.
If you are talking about the laser surgury(Lasik)(cosmetic)to correct the curvature of the cornea(I think it is) for people who are near-sighted, myopic,(astigmatism) or far-sighted too, I think, so they can see usually 20/20. This
surgery is not usually happily done for Diabetics because it is not necessary since Diabetics can still see with glasses or contacts without the surgery. So usually Eye Docs don't want to take the chance of their patient going blind, have other eye damage or a law-suit, just to make the patient look pretty. Eyes are very delicate, especially when they are cut or burned by instruments, your sugars have to be at their very best to make it work out good. Sorry if I sound preachy. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

Oops! You know to my mistake, i actually did thought you guys were talking about Lasik cosmetic surgury to help a person recieve 20/20 vision. However, after closely reading everyones post I realized the mistake.

In any event the last time I checked my eyes were healthy and was not endanger of going blind. however, that was about 10 mths ago when i got the check up. So, I think I better set up an appointment to check them out and get new strips. my eyes has been feeling weird these past few weeks.

When my sugars are out of control I get blurry eyed. The opthomologist tells me I have the very start of cataracts. Lately my eyes have been feeling like sand paper. I've also been extremely tired--maybe that has something to do with it. Not all the time, but way too often. Have any of you felt that? It's approaching time for my annual appointment anyway so I will go. Anything with my eyes panic me. But when it comes to laser treatment for any kind of eye problem, I know nothing.
