Dry eyes??

Curious if anyone here experiences dry eyes related to Diabetes. My son is on eye drops because he is always rubbing his eyes. The optometrist said either it is allergies, or dry eyes related to diabetes...Any thoughts on this??
He is on Topamax eye drops as for the allergy aspect?? This only seems to be an issue in the past couple months. Any thoughts are appreciated!!
I am not sure if I am convinced it is allergies??

Is your son's mouth uncomfortably dry that he will not eat cheese crackers? there is a condition which may or may not be related to diabetes called (and I might be or am more than likely misspelling this) Shogrens. Your eyes do not make tears and the mouth does not produce saliva.

Occasionally I have to use Tears drops or refresh PM for dry eyes. I am sure it is allergies for me though

Hi ClaysMom: Well I've had Diabetes for 43 yrs. and I know I have
only had dry eyes from not getting enough sleep. There is of course a small
chance that his is from Diabetes, though I've never heard of it. My Son
occasionally rubs (squishes)his eyes and he is not Diabetic. I do believe he has allergies however, if he would ever take the time to go to the Docs for his eyes so we'd know for sure. Too busy working.

Thanks for the responses! I guess I just find it funny that all of a sudden he has allergies, being 5 years old and diabetic only for a year! His endo says absolutely, not dry eyes related to diabetes but he is a jerk..we do not have a good relationship unfortuneatly ( whole other story) so I will see his pediatrician regarding this. We will have a new endo soon thank goodness. Thanks again.

I have just today been diagnosed with 'dry eyes' and given fake tears to use, I asked if it is D related, and he said it could be, but people who arent D get it too.

I do know that it sucks
