Dark patches under the eyes

Ok, this isn't really a diabetes related problem, but nevertheless....

...for years now I've always had dark patches under my eyes. My mother continues to insist this is because of a lack of sleep but then again anything to do with my eyes appears to have that cure, according to her.

Anyway, I've just started to wear contact lenses and because I'm now starting to fiddle round with eyes a bit more, I've actually noticed just how dark my eyes are. 'Panda' eyes would be one way of describing them but really I'd say it's more a case of heroin addict meets corpse.

What exactly causes this sort of morbid sallowness in my face, how can I prevent it from getting worse, and is there anything I can do to reverse the process?

Dark patches under eyes usually is inherited. Some info here.

I have this problem too... I don't venture outside without some concealer lest someone tells me (for the billionth time) that it looks like I've been punched in both eyes. It started with my first semester of college so of course everyone was convinced it was lack of sleep, but 8 years later, nothing's changed. Nobody in my family has this problem. I figure it has to with my diet - not drinking enough water or drinking too much caffeine or not getting enough of some essential nutrient. The only thing that sort of helps me is slapping on some super-duper strong expensive concealer...

Maybe from drinking too much squash?

Okay Deus, when I looked at your Pic(looks good), I expected to see
a totally different person. But anyways, my blood uncle married a woman(my Aunt)and she had these, I'm talking, DARK, circles under her eyes. I don't
know if she had them when they were married, cuz I didn't see their Pics. Her
Daughter has the same Dark circles, so it has to be heredity. I sure didn't
see the same in your Pics, by the way. I'm talking Dark.

Dark circles tend to worry me, cause it makes me believe that our body is trying to tell/warn us about an underlying health issue. This isn't always the case, as a multitude of factors can cause circles... However, prior to Carwy's cancer diagnosis, I noticed that the areas around his eyes had become darker. We then found out about his cancer (not because of the dark circles around his eyes, but because of the leg pains he was experiencing).

I'm not saying that this is why you have them, Deus, but when I read your post, it did worry me. Not sure if you're due for a checkup, but maybe you could bring it up to the doctor? I hope everything's a-ok for you, and please continue to keep us posted on this (otherwise, I'll continue to worry)...

Appreciate the concern. Had them for years though so I'm not so sure that I have any underlying health problems (other than diabetes and hypertension).

I get this too, but luckily I'm a girly so I can wear makeup

But it's a pain when I don't want to wear any and people think i'm ill. I'm quite pale too so the darks eyes ain't a good look.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, mum gets it too so I think I take after her.

Do you have allergies? especially environmental allergies (pollens, mold etc) can cause dark circles around/under eyes. My sister has dark circles from her allergies.

I have them too, it's just that they're much more pronounced when I've been running short of sleep for a week or two.

But, then, I'm such a handsome fellow to start with, anything that detracts from my naturalness is noticed by all instantly. LMAo

I've been told by several people that my dark circles could be a sign of parasites. I have dark circles under my eyes. No one in my family has them...just lucky me. I have purchased the stuff for a parasite cleanse, but I'm too scared to start it due to it being made of herbs and I do not know how that would affect my bloodsugar.

Right, so I've either got bad genes, cancer or parasites....

...sheesh, wish I'd never asked now. Ok, next question - how girly would it be if I wore make-up to cover them up?

In this day & age I don't think it is girly to wear a bit of consealer to cover up the dark circles. Just make sure you buy a tone that suits your skin colour & blend it like mad when applying so nobody can see it!
