eyes

Hi this is my first time on this site. I wanted to ask anyone if they have had problems with puffy swollen eyes. My sugar levels are quite eratic, sometimes very low like a 3 then shoot up to 20 something within hours. My eyes have been swollen and red for 6 weeks now and i have been to the doctors 3 times, 3rd time was today, i am now on my 3rd lot of antihistamine tablets and have been told to up my insulin on all my injections. Has anyone any knowledge of this that can help me please.

Hi Karen And A Warm Welcome To Tony's Forum.
None of us are Doctors here, so we obviously can't diagnose
anyone. A few ideas maybe. Did your Doc not tell you what
your problem is? I assume(I know)that you have allergies? Geez,
6 weeks, I'm sorry you're feeling bad. Had you considered
getting a new Doc?
The first thought that came to mind was Conjunctivitis(pink eye).
Your symptoms match what I had in 1992. And I don't have any
Allergies. My Doc gave me antibiotic ointment(works better than
the drops since it stays on the eye longer. But it does cause blurriness
for a while which was ok with me). I saw improvement in 3 days. If I
remember correctly it may be contagious. It's a virus. Sorry, that's all
I can come up with. It may not be that in your case. I hope that you get
your sugars in control very soon. I'm sure that's not helping your eyes.
Again Welcome And Enjoy. Maybe someone else has an idea.

When I read your post I also thought it was conjuctivitus.... and it is contagious... so if you do touch your eyes/s wash your hands straight afterwards. I think that you need a second opinion as your eyes have to be taken care of and 6 weeks is a long time to have a problem like that...

On the otherhand... Welcome to the Forums! glad that you have found us, and great to see another person from the UK!! :p

Hello Karen and Welcome...

I suffer from puffy eyes I know it wasnt my BS but it was an allergy. My doctor gave me Triamcinolone acetonide crean 0.025% worked very well for me. I was better immediately.

Hi, thanks for your replies. It is nice to be able to chat to people who have diabetes and get different opinions. So hello to everyone! Obviously as i am from UK the times are very different but it is nice to look the pages up when i get home from work. Hopefully the allergy tablets i have been given (the 3rd different type) will work. It isnt conjuctivitus, i had that years ago, not a very nice thing to have......

Hi Karen

Have you tried resting with one of those gel masks (that you put in the freezer) as this may reduce the swelling & redness? Also, cucumber is supposed to be good.

Hope your eyes feel better soon.

Unhappy

Hi everyone
I have now been down to thw eye casualty dept about my eyes as nothing has changed and its been over 6 weeks now. They are now suggesting it could be connected to my kidneys, they think there could be to much protein, so this has made my eyes go like they have. I have never heard of this has anyone else!

Karen

Hi Karen,

I have heard that kidneys and eyes are connected. Not sure how it happens but yes I guess they are right.

Maybe tackle the kidney problem first then? What do they say?
