30 weeks-gestational with isulin.

Hi, I having my little baby 30 weeks now, I got the gestational diabetes. According to the doctors, My baby body is bit big size that it's suppose to be. The body size is about 35 weeks. The doctor have me to admin in hospital the next day immediately and monitoring purpose last week and give me Insulin. I am very worried that would anyone let me know insulin will cause any effect of my baby? One days 3 times with the insulin injection make my life bad and I am having nightmare of worried my baby development. Could anyone give me some advise?

Would my first baby will be fine with the insulin that I take daily?

The baby will be healthier if you take the insulin and make sure you keep your blood sugar level under control. If you don't take the insulin, when the baby is born it's likely that he'll be hypoglycemic and the nurses will give him lots of sugar water, instead of letting you breastfeed.

Take the insulin. It's better for you and it's better for your baby.

Hi! Congrats on the baby! No, insulin will not harm your baby...it does not cross the placenta. Unlike glucose ("sugar") which does cross the placenta and can cause your baby to grow very big.

I am 25 weeks pregnant and I am type 1. I've been taking insulin for my whole pregnancy and we are both doing very well. My baby weighs almost 2 pounds which is exactly where she should be.

You sould check out the web site diabetic mommy for more support.

Good luck!

Without taking insulin, it's like you're feeding your baby a boatload of sugar. This could cause the baby's pancreas to have to work harder - taxing his/her pancreas. It's best to keep your sugars under control with the insulin.

Congrats on the baby! I'm also pregnant - 36 weeks now. I've been on insulin since just prior to our "conception". So far so good for the baby - she's normal size for gestation - a bit small if anything. That means no cesarean section!

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was diet controlled only. I really did my best, ate healthy, exercised, etc. She was 22 inches and 11 pounds at... 38 weeks. The birth was difficult and although it didn't quite go well for my baby at first she grew up to be a healthy intelligent young lady of (almost!) 16 now. I was told we were lucky.

When I was pregnant with my 3rd (and last child) I changed doctor!!! I was referred to a specialist and considered a high risk pregnancy. I knew then I was in good hands (at last!). I was put on insulin, once a day, in the evening. We had a healthy, kicking and screaming boy, delivered by c-section that time. Unlike his sister, his birth went very well. He was 9.5 lbs, 21 inches. I don't do small babies I guess?? He is also healthy and intelligent. He's 14 now.

I feel I should have been put on insulin when pregnant with my daughter. Would I have another child... I would not hesitate as far as insulin goes.

The very best to you and your little baby!

I just curious, I put insulin, and especially morning, my blood sugar shoot high after my breakfast 2 hours, it's that consider normal? Any ideal range measurement --blood sugar-- after and before insulin and compare with the normal person.

My morning numbers usually run a little high too. I think the same is true for a lot of people with diabetes. My endo told me no fruit or dairy for breakfast and that has been helping. What do you normally eat for breakfast? A lot cerals can spike you really high.

Is there a diabetic educator that you can see? I think you would be a lot happier on a carb to insulin ratio rather than shooting 8 units every time you eat.

My BG goals are: fasting 90-120, one hour post under 140. My HA1C goal is 5.0 or less. You should check with your doctor for goals. Its probably a little different for GD.

Hang in there, you can come up to speed with this stuff really fast. Don't beat yourself up over the occasional high number. No one gets it right everytime and in the beginning it can be confusing.

As far as defects are concerned, you might ask for a level 2 sonogram for your peace of mind. Don't not to worry too much...its not good for you or the baby. People with diabetes have healthy babies evey day!

I was put on insulin at about 24 wks into my pregnancy. My docs were worried that she was getting to big and at 38 wks I was admitted into hospital to be induced, unfortunately I also developed pre eclampsia the day before being admitted. After 18 hrs of labour I had my daughter by c-section but only because of failure to progress, nothing to do with her size or my diabetes. She was born weighing 8lb 13oz which isn't that big at all, plus she lost a lb in the first week due to fluid gained from the diabetes.

When I was pregnant I was diet controlled. My fasting was under 95 and my 2hr post was 120. I am now T2 and goals are the same.
