Recently Diagnosed with GD

I was recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I am 33 weeks pregnant and I was told to test 4 times a day:

- first thing in the morning
- after breakfast
- after lunch
- after dinner

I was also told to eat the following amount of carbs

- Breakfast no more than 30
- Snack no more than 15
- Lunch no more than 45
- Snack no more than 15
- Dinner no more than 65
- Snack no more than 15

I have a few questions for those of you who may be able to answer..

1. How long do I wait after eating to test? I've been waiting an hour but I heard if I wait longer I may get a more accurate reading.

2. Does the amount of carbs sounds right to you? My OBGYN gave me these rules until I see a dietition, but I always find myself hungry.

3. Is it true that fruits / vegatables are a given? I can eat as many as I want? My aunt is type 2 diabetic and said apples are not god (for her atleast).

4. If I show you whatI ate and the readings I got would you be able to tell me if they arein normal range?

Im so sorry for thelong post. I've never really had to watch what I've eaten before and it's hard. I just want both baby and I to be healthy.

Two hours is standard. Mark down how long in the log so Dr. can interpret correctly.

Sounds fine to me. There's more than enough for you and child IMO. But I'm a guy. Eat more protein and veggies. Drink lots of water.

No. You should count carbs in all your foods. There's some online carb libraries. Just google "apple carbs".

I'd be happy with under 8 mmol/l anything over 10 mmol/l is pushing it, for the 2 hour mark. Raise that by about 2 for the one hour mark. Others will think these are a bit high, but I don't know what targets are gor gest. Ask your doctor.

The highest I've had it been since starting is 6.7 and that's testing 1 hour after my meals. The lowest it's been is 5.9.

So I'd take it that I am doing okay thus far?

Thanks for the reply!

Dumb question but what do you guys mean by #mmol/l. I also had gestational diabetes and it sounds like you are doing really well with understanding things. I am on my second pregnancy and I am sure I have it again however my Dr doesn't think it's a priority so I am trying to figure out what to high is? Last time I had insulin and I stayed right at 100-120. this time with her ignoring the problem I am 160 fasting and 200 two hours after meals, and that's with maybe 15 carbs. Talk about starving!!
