New here

Hello… My name is Monika. I was diagnosed on April 11th with T2 diabetes. I have a family history of both thyroid disease and diabetes so it shouldn’t have been a big surprise but it was.

I had never been overweight until five years ago, that and other issues lead me to a doctor where I found out that my thyroid had stopped functioning; my doctor prescribed a thyroid replacement medicine and thought he was done. I just didn’t really feel any better…. and I told him that…. a lot…for three years…. until I couldn’t take it anymore. He referred me to a physiatrist, because surely the fact that I was still complaining of symptoms must mean I was crazy. That’s when I fired him and found a new doctor. My new doctor upped my thyroid medicine (he was upset that my TSH level was so high) and found that I have diabetes. By the time I was diagnosed with diabetes I was 60 pounds overweight ….I have since lost 23 pounds.

Until last week I was able to keep my BG level between 80 and 110 and under 140 after meals…lately however I’ve been struggling to keep from peaking in the 200’s even though I haven’t changed what I eat. I’m on 850mg of Metformin twice a day and my first A1c test since my diagnoses is scheduled for the middle of July and since my new doctor is a little intrigued by the fact that I have really low blood pressure and really low cholesterol he’s going to do a few more tests “to really see what’s going on” with me….whatever that means. In the mean time I’m just doing my best to learn what I can and get control of this.

Happy...errr?....glad....ahh?....to be here (heck you know what I mean)

Monika

Hi Monika

Welcome to the Forum. I sure know what you mean, none of us are happy to have this disease, but since we do, it's nice to find support and answers to questions from others living with the same thing.

Hope to see you around the Forum.

Hi Monika, Years ago, I had a doctor like yours. He wanted me to see someone to figure out why I was so tired all the time, and then why I was having "crying jags"....I got a little upset when he tried to tell me it was all in my head! My now doctor, always listens, and is quick to check things out. Doctors are just like people, some bad, some good. I'm glad you finally found one who could help you. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Hi Monica,

Welcome to the forum and I hope you get all this medical testing done and sorted out. I was diagnosed with T2 four years ago and I'm taking Metformin 500 mgs 2x a day. I also take Crestor for my cholesterol and I am on a thyroid medication as I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. So far my thyroid has been good as I got tested in May and all was just fine.

I do the A1C test every three months to keep up with my diabetes as well as other tests for my cholesterol and thyroid.

I also suffer from depression as well and right now its not so good. I'm having a very hard, emotional time right now.

I hope you get lots of information in here as I'm doing that myself.
