3 of 4 in family with each of the diabetes types

Hello! I'm happy to be connected to others that understand what it is like to live with diabetes.

I'm Lisa (39) with type 2 diabetes. My five year old has type 1 diabetes (diagnosed at 19 months). My husband (35) is participating in a natural history (of diabetes) clinical trial. He has tested positive for 3 out of 4 type 1 antibodies with an impaired fasting glucose of 104. The researchers told us today that they believe that he is high risk for developing type 1 (1.5) within 5 years and that he may be exhibiting type 2 insulin resistance right now. I guess type 1.5 or LADA is a slow progressing type 2 that eventually becomes insulin dependent. Only our 3 year old is negative for diabetes antibodies right now. We all have our different issues. I'm looking forward to discussing some of them within the different forums. Thanks for being here.

Hi Lisa. We are glad to have you here with us. Jump in anywhere and everywhere. We are a fairly decent, if not dysfunctional group around here. LOL.

Close ... LADA is a "slow progressing" type 1.

Thank you for the clarification. I have a lot to learn. Can those with the Type 1 antibodies for LADA also be insulin resistant in the early stages like a Type 2 diabetic? I read that not being insulin resistant is typical of early LADA. Try to figure out the best way to treat my husband at this stage.
