Welcome Paige. Along with pumping, I also take 1,000 mg total a day of Metformin.

If you've recently been dx'd and have just started out on Metformin, it will take about 4 weeks for you to notice changes in your BS readings....... at least that's how long it took for me.

Watch your carbohydrate intake.......the lower the better.

I have been thinking and I am not really that new at it, I have been taking oral meds for almost a year but nothing else. Just borrowed a tester the other day from a friend, more out of courosity, the doc never said anything about testing so I just figured he knew what he was talking about, lol. My mil and fil are both diabetic and have been for a while, they take shots.

So I have been with them today and its gone like this
347 30units (from fil) 1/2 sandwich
344 25units
289
310 25units diner 1/2
387
307

that is about every hour

I also walk everyday for a few miles, little dog in morning and big dog at night

Bean............You've been on oral meds for almost a year and your doctor never mentioned anything about testing? At the least, you should have been testing twice a day.

Now............I am confused about the BS #'s you posted, and especially the "units (from fil). Are you telling us that your father-in-law gave you insulin and that's the # of units you took?

Yea fil gave me insulin, i have a doc appt in an hour. Im not comfortable with fil and with not testing. I have been reading a lot lately and it seems at the very min i should be testing a few times a day, I hope the doc plans on giving me lots of time because I plan on asking every question i can think of
