Hello and Thanks!

Hello Folks
My name is Bobby and I was just diagnosed 6-27 with diabetes. My GP is a decent guy but from reading this forum and other reasearch, he is lacking when it comes to diabetes. When my reading came back at 414, he went nuts, like he was po'ed at himself for not catching it sooner.(been seeing him for 8 yrs) Only thing he did was give me a prescription for Avandia and sent me home with a "cut back on your sugar".

This is where the huge thanks to you folks comes in. After some extensive readung here and some very helpful links I hope I have a good start on what I need to be doing. I cut out all bread, pasta, cookies, candy, most fruit, and most other stuff that is bad for us.
I try to get in about 45 minutes to an hour of weight training in the morning and then the wife and I walk 2 miles every day and sometimes twice a day. I can't be real precise on the weight loss because the last time my GP weighed me was in april and I was 281. This morning I tipped the scales at 215.

My next appointment will be 7-27 at which time I guess I'll get a meter and start testing so I can keep track of what's going on. I feel so much better than I did the week I was diagnosed and I feel I owe a lot of it to this forum for all the helpful info that's posted here. THANKS!!!

Talking

Hello Bobby and Welcome to the family. That's the main reason we are here: To help others with our experiences. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I may be able to answer some of them but being a T1, I'm not up much on how T2's handle their care. We do have quite a few type2's here who can help. I feel you have found the best place for support, help, and understanding.
Again, Welcome. It sounds like you have a good handle on it so far. Keep it up and you will see good changes.

Hey, Bobby. I'm T2 so if you ever have a question, I'll do my best to help out. There are many T2's here to help as best they can also. Good luck on the progress!

Welcome Bobby...hope you can find an endocronologist in your area or educate your doctor somewhat. It is sometimes hard for GP's to keep up with all the new and advanced stuff in all medicine. Keep up the good work and welcome

Congratulations for taking the bull by the horn! Many newly diagnosed people don't do that. You're doing a terrific job selecting food items and losing weight.........keep it up!

Good luck with your doctor's appointment!

Welcome Bobby and congrats on the weight loss, that is fantastic.

I've lost over 80 pounds myself so I know how GOOD it feels to get excess weight off

Hope to see you around the Forum
