New to this site....

Hello everyone, my name is jeanann I am 52 years old and also have fibro, osteoarthritis. Any way....my mom is a type 2 diabetic and when she got her new glucometer I was learning how to use it and taking my blood, i was fasting and did not eat or drink anything yet in the AM. My blood was 106, 107 and 105. I thought that was good. Later I had to take mom to a dietician and told her how Good my blood sugar was and she said I am pre diabetic!!!! So I started learning more and i signed up for the pre diabetic class, I ordered my own glucometer and supplies and I have been taking supplements and ordered glucofast. OK so here I am. I have always worked out and eaten correctly. Well I thought I was, and the past two years I have had weight around my middle. I never have had this before. No matter what i have done i can not get rid of it. I have done the low carb diet for years and had good success. However as of late it just doesnt work. Now I think I know why. I am learning about this thing every day and have an appointment with my primary on August 22. So we shall see what we shall see.

I am feeling very depressed over this. Its yet ANOTHER diagnosis. I just feel so OLD. I dont look old at all, but I feel like I am 80 or so. I have really tried all my life to be so healthy and now this it is very dicouraging to me. I know I am whinning and I am grateful to learn about this early but it is upsetting.

Thanks for listening....
JEan Ann

JeanAnn, sometimes my body feels old, but in my mind I am still young. I would love to have your fasting numbers. Maybe you have caught yours early enough to keep it under control for a long time. We are here for when you feel like whining and understand about you being upset. Welcome.

Welcome! I am pre-diatetic also. My numbers run about the same as yours. This sight will be invaluable to you in learning all about diabetes and what to expect. We are the lucky ones and have a chance on keeping diabetes at bay. I too have excess weight around my middle area and it's been hard to lose it. You may also want to look at this site to see if PCOS might be another condition you may have:

Soul Cysters

PCOS might be the reason you are having such a hard time with your weight. You hang in there, and don't give up!

It's a frustrating disease to have to deal with but once you learn how to take care of yourself I'm sure you'll be feeling a lot better.

Welcome to the forum. I felt depressed and old too when I was diagnosed as a T2. I am 33 yet I felt like I belonged in a nursing home!! It took me a few days to get over the shock and learn this was not a death sentence. Learn as much as you can about diabetes before your next doctor visit; being educated on this will make the visit more productive. Ask questions here too.

Welcome jeanann. I'm 51 and like you I was very depressed when I got my diagnosis a month ago. The first week I felt really bad and everything seemed so hopeless until I was talking to a friend of mine. He's 65yrs old, had 5 heart attacks in 1985, prostate cancer that was taken care of, and lost his bladder to cancer a couple years ago and he still is happy as a lark. His motto is reach down, grab yourself by the bootstraps and pull yourself up. I tried it and it does indeed work. Good luck to you.

New to site....

Thankyou all for your replys....I have been following a low fat low calorie diet and working out religously for about 3 weeks and taking supplements known to be helpful to lower blood sugars and today I have a fasting bs of 88...this has helped with the depression knowing that my plan of action is actually working.

I have been reading and reading on the net and can not figure out what a good bs is for pre diabetes. like I said I have my class on August 17 and will ask all these types of questions. It appears that bs for T2 diabetes is different than for pre diabetes????

Gunnie: what are you fasting bs and what sort of things are you doing for your pre diabets? If you dont mind....

Thanks
Jean Ann
