| My 7 year old has been on his Animas 1200 (we don't have the 1250 in Australia) for 2 weeks and it's been interesting and a bit nerve racking, but it's a nice feeling when you can predict what's going to happen, instead of guessing what the protophane is going to be doing today. I test him at 10:30 - 11:00pm and then get up at 3am, and he tests before every meal. He is very sensitive to insulin and was only on small doses the first week (at school), but this week I have been increasing his basals dramatically because it is school holidays and he is playing with the PS2 instead of running around.
We have education in a hospital for 1 1/2 days and that is great. It is a bit like starting all over again, new terminology, and you have to learn to trust the pump. Although the pumps are different, they really are the same logic. I have been recommended 'Pumping Insulin' by John Walsh (the new version), but here it is really expensive.
Get yourself some digital scales and measuring spoons and follow the carb info closely, it really is important. It is a little more time consuming to do this measuring but it is worth it when you see the BGLs 'in the range', instead of fluctuating from 2.8 to 22 in one day.
We use the Quickserter and my son doesn't like it but this device hides the needles and it is over pretty quickly, if you are lucky. He hated the needles (was on 2 in the morning and 1 at night - Protophane, Novorapid and Lantus), and was really interested in the pump, but I was not surprised when he announced after the second site change that he wanted to go back to needles. Persevere it is worth it, but don't expect it to be great overnight.
