Smile Hello!

Hello, my name is Tanya and I decided to find out all I can about diabetes after a big scare my husband went through this past September. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 19 and now, at the age of 31, he has Type II diabetes.

Four months ago, he got a small callus on his foot that opened up int a big wound. It got infected with gang green and he has to be admitted into the hospital last month. He had to have surgery to drain a very nasty abcess. The infection did not get into his bones (thank God)! He is now home (for a month now) with a vac in his foot. He sees a Wound Specialist doctor once a week and he says it's healing nicely. He has to be on Antibiotics for a total of 8 weeks and it gets him sick, but if it gets rid of his infection then we are OK with it.

He has not been taking care of his diabetes for the past six years and it's because he didn't think that anything like this could happen to him. He has awaken and taken charge of his life. He has to be on Insulin, as well as Avandement and Glipizide now. He tests his sugar levels when he's supposed to and he's eating healthy (we are all now - I have lost so much weight behind it :p).

In saying all of this, this big scare has changed his life for the better and I am so happy about it. Diabetes is a serious illness and we're in need of support so I've landed here.

Thank you!

Tanya

He's not a forums junkie like I am. I will relay messages to him as I do already.

Hello Tanya: I'm Glad that you found Tony's Forums
and all of us. Eeeeew! Your poor Hubby. That sounds dreadful.
I really hope that it heals up for him soon . With decent control
things will get better for him. Certainly nothing wrong with using
Insulin to get better bg numbers. Most have good results.

I hope that your weight-loss is a Good thing for you. Change is
Good usually. Well, there is lots of support here for both of you. Dig
in and Welcome to you both.

I've participated in very few forums before I found this one. The only forums I used to visit were work related. This forum is more like a giant support group to me...
