I agree, but once I've been diagnosed by a competent doctor I would feel more comfortable learning from the experience of long-time diabetics who post on this forum.

I've read a report on this forum where a doctor prescribed diabetic medicine to a person who was obviously only in the very early stages of pre-diabetes. Most doctors are just too gung-ho with their prescriptions and don't have the time (or knowledge in many cases) to help people control their conditions with lifestyle changes.

There was a study several years ago in which one of the prediabetes groups were given diabetic medicine. It was the success rate of the reversal of insulin resistance in this group which prompted them to recommend classifying Prediabetes, and giving prediabetics oral medication. You may call them gung ho, but the ones that have had their insulin resistance reversed say Thank You!

Yes and that is precisely what I have been advocating all along. You get diagnosed by a professional and then all the other questions you'll have about lifestyle and managing your treatment, you use us AND your healthcare team.

Otherwise you're suggesting that I implied no-one should ever use this forum, which is a total and utter misrepresentation of my position.

All that I am saying is that if you come here asking 'Do I have diabetes', no-one here can answer that question accurately. Give me a list of symptoms and I and no-one else here will be able to tell you whether or not your have diabetes - we can suggest it's possible but without being able to run tests on you, we can't tell you. Come here and tell me you're having problems with high blood sugars in the morning and we'll be able to suggest lots of different ways of solving that.

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

If you read my report in the pre-diabetes section you'll see what happened in my case. I went from high Type 2 BG readings back to pre-diabetic readings in about 3 months. I stopped taking medicine after 6 weeks. Did the medicine cure me?

Are you advocating that pre-diabetics should all start taking medicine because it's been shown to cure pre-diabetes in a group. It would be an easy way for sure. I'd like to see this research.

I have to agree totally that we should see a doctor if we think we have diabetes.

My family has a history of diabetes. I lost one brother, in his 30's to diabetes. Now, another brother, around 60 is being treated for diabetes.

My doctor has been hounding me because I'm apparently in danger of being Type 2 diabetic. I've had some physicals and test recently to keep track of my situation.

My doctor says I've apparently improved because I've lost 6 pounds in 6 months (I weigh 326 pounds), and glucose serum level has gone down from 120 in August 2006 to 98 this month.

I'm still confused because I think I've experienced some of the more worrisome symptoms, and he might not understand that.

I've resolved to get out more and walk in order to lose weight. And I'm more convinced than ever to reduce my sugar intake.

At any rate, I think this forum will be good for me, as it has been for others.

Good for you!

When you say reduce your sugar intake what do you mean?

I am hoping you mean that you will reduce your carbohydrate intake. Sugar is just one form of carbohydrate.

If i have learned nothing else it is this:

any carbohydrate = sugar!!!
