| | | Saying Hello Hello everyone!
I was told that I am a type 2 Diabetes back in August of 2006. I was actually tested and diagnosed, but not told that I was diabetic the previous summer. Funny how none of my doctors had received the blood test results. It was my endocrinologist's intern who stumbled upon the results in the computer while "checking in" to me. I was rather quite shocked seeing as Diabetes does not run on either side of my family.
I am hyperglycemic but had (and still do from time to time) been experiencing mostly symptoms of someone who is hypoglycemic.
I was actually relieved to find out this news because I had been complaining to both my endocrinologist and my family doctor about athletes foot that wouldn't clear up and actually spread and turned into yellowy orange toenails as well as not feeling myself, moody, . . . and I had also been complaining to my Optometrist for a few years that my sight had been going blurry. I thought maybe it was just me and thought maybe I was going through a mental breakdown! It is nice to know that there is a reason for why I was feeling the way I was!
What annoys me is that no one seemed to clue in despite my complaining. I don't entirely fault anyone because I have a rare primary health problem to begin with. I have Pan-Hypopituitarism (underdevelopped pituitary gland; which is your master gland and controls all your systems).
Anyhow, that is probably enough rambling on for now. I am glad that I was told about this site. It seems to have lots of good information and a good support crew!

| | | Hello Miss DB and welcome. It's good that someone was on the ball checking your records! I know I was diabetic long before any of my doctors bothered to tell me or treat me.

| | Hi Miss DB:
It's Nice to see you here. It's certainly
unfortunate that the Drs. didn't test
you sooner but thankfully you know now
and you will be able to get your sugars
under better control. Ask for help if you
need to. Take Care.

| | | Welcome! Dr's aren't alyways on the ball. My Primary care Dr. was ok with me with an A1C of 7.8!... I wasn't happy, I questioned a few things and now I'm on a stronger Med. So far the glucose averages 127. So I am almost there. When I see my
new endo I'm gonna try to get on Lantus. Good Luck! |

| | | Thanks for your all your Welcome messages.
Yes I am on meds. I take Avandamet (1 tablet twice a day, it's a combo of Rosiglitazone 4mg and metformin 100mg).
When I went to the diabetes education classes in January, they tested for protein in the urine, and lucky me, tested positive. So I now also take altace
Since being told of my diabetes, I have reduced my intake of carbs and have increased my regular exercise program. I say thank goodness I was a fairly healthy eater to begin with and also that I walked often. Now It's daily and for at least the recommended 30 minutes.
I don't know what my initial A1C test result was. Here are the results I do know.
Nov '06- 10.1
Jan '07- 7.8
Apr '07- 7.6
Triglycerides
Nov '06- 3.52
Jan '07- 2.37
My weight has also decreased by 25 lbs!
My daily bg readings are for the most part very close to normal, if not in the normal range.
