| | | Just Diagnosed Hi ya'll. I was just diagnosed with Type 2 this past week. Guess I still don't know much about the disease. I meet with my dietician on Thursday so I guess I will learn alot that day. My A1C was 8.5. I am 36 yrs. old and I found out through a routine physical. I started taking 1.25 mg Glyburide on Saturday. Anyway, I guess I will be hanging out with ya'll alot now..... Wish me luck!

| | Hi There Stephen! It's Good to meet you.
You're quite lucky. Okay not to be dxd.,
but to start with an A1c of 8.5. More People
than not have way higher A1c's when dxd.
That should make your new "burden" a bit
easier to get under control.
Pull up a chair. There's lots of room.
Welcome and Good Luck to Ya.

| | | Hi Stephen, Welcome! Getting that diagnosis is scary, but you can learn to live a happy and healthy life with the Big-D. Things will get easier as time goes by. You'll find lots of great information here.
Hope you have a monitor and are testing a lot, esp. 2 hrs after the start of your meals...this is the only way you'll know how certain foods affect your blood sugar. Doing this will help you learn what to avoid and what to eat regularly. If you don't have one already, you doctor can probably give you one as they usually have monitors supplied by the strip companies.
Again, welcome!
Linda

| | | Welcome Stephen. Being diagnosed can be an overwhelming experience, and you have come to the right place for support. If you think of this as a new beginning to a healthier lifestyle, you'll have an easier time at managing your diabetes. Good luck meeting with the dietitian. Ask a lot of questions.

| | | Update.... Ok, I figure I will post my results I have had so far. I only stayed on the Glyburide for 1 week and doctor pulled me off of it. A1C is now 5.7, cholesterol dropped 50 pts., lost 34 lbs., and have been running 2 to 3 miles 3 times a week. My goal was to get back to where I could run a mile without stopping and now I go 2 to 3 without stopping. I am still 268 lbs so it is pretty tough but I feel being diagnosed has probably got me in the best shape I have been in a long time. I will keep ya'll posted in the future! |

| | | Way to go Stephen! You're making excellent progress. You say that the doctor took you off the Glyburide after 1 week. Did he prescribe something else?
