Hello Everyone

I just joined today. I have had Type 1 diabetes since 1968. I went on the pump in 2001 and have just recently started with the glucose sensor. I found this forum when I was looking for information about the meaning of the Isig value on my sensor - I thought that this might be a good place to get advice and information from people who understand!

Thanks, Susan, for the words of welcome - I grew up in Northern Ireland so some of my early experiences will be quite different from that of other members of this forum. Anne

Thanks for welcoming me - I believe there is so much that I can learn on this site. It is also good to know I have this means of getting practical advice and support - sometimes no one else can provide this sort of help except for a fellow diabetic.

Welcome to the club Anne.

What pump are you using? I use a mm715 (no sensors ). Never saw an Isig.

Anne,

WELCOME!

This is definitely the place to be when you'd like someone to understand what you go through, and have questions and/or concerns about your drs advice, etc., etc.

Thank you for all the welcomes. I am glad I found my way in here too. In response to your question, Mike, I am using a Paradigm 522 but previously had the 515. I sincerely love my pump!
Actually I have had a (for me) frightening experience in the last day or two. Yesterday, at work, I noticed that my blood sugar was going up fast so I did a correction bolus with no result. I actually went to the school nurse (I'm a TA in an elementary school) because I wasn't feeling good. My BG was in the high 300s by then. My husband had to come get me. I came home and discovered I was spilling ketones - this never happens to me. Whenever I have a high BG I can always get it corrected. I also had started vomiting - my endocrinologist told me to go to the ER. I spent 5 hours there - my BG was 406 on admission. They put me on an IV to rehydrate me and sent me home when I made it to 259 and wasn't spilling ketones. I was not able to keep anything down, not even water until midnight. I have since learned that several kids went home sick with a stomach virus yesterday. It took an age to get below 200. I ended up using a higher basal rate all day today - about 150%. As I am used to going low easily, this was all something of a shock to me. Sorry as I see that I have rambled on but I just needed to let it out. By the way my husband gets a gold star for calm and practical help!

Wow this really is a worldwide forum!

I have just been focusing on everyone's location and now realize the extent of this forum - so my comment earlier about having had a different experience as a diabetic growing up in Northern Ireland was a bit naive to say the least! I suppose I thought as I am in the U.S. then everyone else is too. And anyway, we all have had a different experience no matter where we are from. Sorry I am a bit green when it comes to this arena. After all www does stand for world wide web.

Hi there Adiantum - you'll be all tucked up in bed now, maybe!
I find this forum kind of compulsive viewing - there are so many areas where I go, "Oh yeah I can relate to that" - thus every time I am near the computer I stop in to see what's happening here. It is very comforting to have access to this "in the field" information and it makes me feel less isolated.

Hi Anne, welcome. I read alot on here but don't post too often. There is soooo much info to be found. I started on the Dexcom 7 on Feb. 15th and love it. It has alerted me to some lows and highs that I would have otherwise missed. Most of the time I stay pretty well matched to my tester and CGMS. I live in Michigan.
