| | | Terrible thing. A mind is a terrible thing to have. I lost mine a few years ago.I've been too busy giving up to take the time to look for it. I've been waiting for someone to figure out that I'm not supposed to have this. I don't care if it's type 1 or type 21, it belongs to someone else, cause it's not mine. I have just lost a job that I had for 18 years. Failure to control my blood sugar. I hate this. Sorry but that is the best thing I can say. I guess I'm the new guy, if you will have me.

| | | G'day Hopenopus, Dont worry about the mind yet, it will come back when you get those blood sugars under control.
You have come to a great place to learn how to do that & be with friends at the same time.
Sorry about the job loss, I know how hard it is to have a change of lifestyle & the lack of routine & insecurity that comes with it.
Do you test your blood glucose daily? |

| | | Welcome Hopenopus! You've certainly found a great place for advice, encouragement and support. We're all a member of a club we never wanted to join...but we're hang in and doing great for the most part...and we're here to help you in any way we can.
If you will, tell us a little more about yourself. What are you taking to help manage your diabetes? Are you T1 or T2?
So sorry to hear about your job, i'm sure that was devastating for you, on many levels.
You may have to make some adjustments, but it is possible to gain decent control of your blood sugars...and you'll feel so much better when you do. I didn't know how bad I felt...until I started feeling better!
Hope you post often...look around and ask lots of questions. YOU CAN DO THIS....WE'RE HERE TO HELP!

| | | Welcome to the club.
No worries - minds are completely overrated. Get you into all sorts of trouble.
BTW, you have a good story behind that interesting screen name? Just wondering since Opus is one of my all time favorite cartoon characters.

| | | Hopenopus-
First off, Welcome to the forum.
Second, your story isn't to different than mine in a few ways. January I was laid off from my job of 13 years (a job which I really enjoyed) do to a corporate purchase of an even larger company. February I found out I was T2 and a week later I lost my Insurance (I was on my wife's plan). I was dealing with 3 major issues that hit me blindside within weeks of each other. So I know how you feel, a little hopeless, confused, mad and in denial. After allowing myself to feel bad for awhile I started taking one issue at a time. I joined this forum, started my own business and now trying to get insurance (d@mn near impossible here in California for a self-employed person) but still trying.
Post here often for gathering information and the side effect is it will make you feel better. There's lots of people here with somewhat the same issues that will give you good advice and friendship... I know, it sounds a little sappy but it's true. Things like this happen for a reason, just need to deal with it and not let it depress you to much.

| | | WELCOME Hopenopus,
Maybe you had to go this far down in order to start moving back UP again. Maybe I'm wrong . . . I like trying to find order in things though. Stay with us here. We will help encourage you to get better control and have a healthier body and mind. The mind is dramatically influenced by the body's health and vice versa. Hope to hear more from you soon.

| | | I did'nt think anyone else would know about Opus. If you're half as strange as I am you've got a dead end ticket to the cotton box. If we're going together I want the window seat.
I did'nt know all you people were out there. It's hard to quit when you feel like everyones watching.

| | | Nothing like have a bunch of diabetics "watching out for you." I find the information, support, encouragement and friendship this forum provides to be invaluable. Before coming here, I felt that having diabetes meant that life as I knew it was over....now I realize just how much better life can be when you're actually being proactive in living it....
