Question

Not sure if pre-diabetes or type 2.
Menopausal 50 y/o female. Fluctuating weight for 30 years (5'5") 130 - 170 lbs. Last 10 years, Airport baggage security. Before that navy wife, mom, and full time student and tutor and housewife, let alone navy wife. Life has significantly slowed down in past year and have been unemployed for past 6 months. I have gone though alot of emotional and psychological trauma in the last 4 years.

I have leg and foot cramps that are debilitating enough to curl my toes to the soles of my feet when my feet get cold or over-worked.

I experience heart palpitations when I don't eat on a regular basis or if I drink too much coffee.

I am just looking for help or advice on what actions to take and whether or not I have anything to worry about.

I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my son , 26 years ago. My mom has type 2 diabetes. I have an uncle with full blown diabetes that blinded him.

Should I worry about the weight fluxes and foot cramps?

g'day tinkster, I think it's time you visited a doctor & asked for pathology tests of your HbA1C.
Having had GD as well as D being in your family is enough to have this tested.
I had GD almost 40yrs ago & regret not having had my blood glucose tested at least 20yrs later.

Welcome Tinkster! Glad you found the forums.

An A1C test (showing 90 day blood sugar averages) should give you the definitive answers you're looking for.

Before being diagnosed, i'd wake up at night with racing heart and sweating, with overall anxiety. I do remember having several nighttime leg cramps that would cause me to awaken in pain. I still have these on occasion, though not as often.

Always best to know for sure if something is going on. You know your own body, and you obviously feel things aren't right. With your family and personal history, i'd definitely get things checked out. Let us know how it goes....and if you do have diabetes, we're here to help.
