| | | Hi, Mom of Type 1 from ATL Hi,
My name is Jessie and I am from Cumming, GA. I have three daughters, Lexi (5), Kassadi (2) and Marlee EDD 5/12/08.
My daughter Lexi has type 1 diabetes and was diagnosed @ 2 yrs old. She is currently on Novolog and Lantus but we are exploring the pump option. |

| | | Hi Raymond family hi you found a great forum here and we are all struggling with the diabetes condition . Does your daughter go to an endo ? or does she see a pediatrician ? there is a big difference because my nephew used to go to the pediatrician and he knew absoloutly nothing about juvenille diabetes . I would suggest that you make an appt with an endo for your daughter . that way you will maybe be better off in her health concerns . good luck . |

| | | Hi, glad to meet you. How is Lexi doing? (And how are you managing -- congrats on your due-any-day baby!)
Pumping is a little more complicated but a lot more flexible and precise. There are parents of toddlers on the childrenwithdiabetes forums who say it vastly improved their child's quality of life. I hope, if you decide on a pump, that you find the same.
Doing a pump start with a brand-new baby might be a little rough -- there's a lot of testing involved so the sleep deprivation could be spectacular. You might want to wait until Marlee has settled in a bit.

Welcome to DF and congrats on the coming baby.
I agree, a new baby and a pump start might be rough--but at the same time sometimes it takes awhile to deal with insurance and paper work. The coming summer might be a good time to play with the pump and problem solve while your daughter is not at school.

| | | Hi Jesse,
Sounds like you have your hands full. It is a good idea to get your daughter on a pump but take your time and do it when you can all focus on it together. The focused team approach makes sense... It would be nice if there was a way in which someone could monitor your moves on line and see everytime your daughter's blood sugar results were changing. And send you recommendations on what to do so that you as a parent wouldn't have to make all those decisions yourself. I'm sure that would be helpful.... Best of luck with diabetes Forum it seems really cool in hear I'm new as well.

Ps. having your daughter on novolog and lantus at her age is so much further ahead than the one shot a day of Lente insulin I took when I was a kid. It actually only lasted 12 - 16 hours. Now the with lantus it last 24 hours so it seems like you are almost on a pump. (By the way Lantus' competitor Levimir doesn't sting as much when you inject it.) |
