Introduction to the Forum

Hi my name is Kelly, I discovered this forum because I was searching for information on what to expect when having a vitrectomy.

I've had type 1 diabetes for 23 years, diagnosed at 5 years old. This week I was diagnosed with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and am going in tomorrow for a shot in my left eye to reduce the blood vessels and will be scheduled in 2 weeks for my vitrectomy.

Anyhow, I stumbled upon this forum that has been answering all of the questions I've had so I figured I'd join!

Let me know your thoughts or personal stories, you can send the link to them too if they're already on the forum.

Thank you!

Kelly

Hi Kelly
Welcome....I was diagnosed with proliferative retinopathy 20 years ago during the 4th month of pregnancy. We did a pile of lazer japping but no vitrectomy. Today I see just fine but all those years ago it scared the heck out of me and not long after that I got a pump. Keep us posted on your situation, the people here a smart, motivated and kind. Hope all goes well..CrazyG

Hey Kelly.

Ya, been there, done that. I'll dig out some old posts. Browse through the Eye Forum

I guess you've had some bleeding? Lots of fun, eh? Hopefully the surgeon is good and will get you straightened out. The technology is amazing these days.

I had mine in October 2006. It's a cool exprerience. Really! Expect to at least have your vision affected. You will likely lose some, but it will be a whole lot better than the alternative. I'm at 20/20 but my field of view is much less, and I have some extra blind spots. I would say I'm not handicapped in any way, except for fine eye movement tasks like playing baseball.

Advice on vitrectomy?

Nov. 15th is coming early!
