First post of any kind EVER!!

Hello and greetings to all - I have no idea what I am doing as even though I am on computers all day and read alot of posts in between work tasks never really did one until now. I joined this group about 10 minutes ago as I have been diagnosed for about a year and a half and take all kinds of meds with not too great a result yet but trying. I have very little self control when it comes to eating and my lifestyle is not very condusive to controlling my eating habits, etc. - for now I plan on reading a whole bunch of posts by others and want to again say "Yo" to everyone.
Chief out.

Welcome to the forums Chief, you have found a great place for information, the people here are always ready to help and support.

Have you heard of a book "The first year: Type 2 Diabetes by Gretchen Becker", I know you are past your first year but it would probably still be worth a read, very informative and easy to read.

Ask lots of questions, it's how we all learn.

Out of the shadows and into the daylight I'm glad you decided to join us Chief. I think you'll be glad too before too long. Finding DF just after Dx has helped me a lot.

welcome aboard! Well my friend you may have admitted a big portion of the problem for you up front. Change your mind set to I can control my eating! This is one of the big challenges for all with the big "D".

The next is find a way to get some exercise. Even if it is just walking 20 - 30 minutes a day. If you can no longer walk try seated aerobics!!!! Any thing to burn some calories.

Do tell us more about yourself so maybe we can give more input. Like what meds are you on? Type 1, 1.5 or 2? etc.

Have a blessed day

If You want to gain control you will have to make some major life changes. It comes down to this do you want to eat what you want without any controls or do you want to maybe lose a leg, go blind, lose your teeth, have your kidneys shut down, and die. its your life only you can decide to change it, joining a support like DF is your first. Good luck

Welcome to the club Cheif!

You are right - lots of changes. Make what adjustments you can & set the goals high enough to keep moving forward.

Not sure what your biggest issues are but walking, even for a few minutes a day will help a lot. Walking BY fast food joints is another. Let us know what's up with you & how we can help.

Welcome, Chief!

I've been there. I ate pretty much whatever I wanted and my HbA1c was still in the 5-6 range, so no harm, no foul, right? Except when my HbA1c crept up to 6.9 and suddenly it wasn't a game of what I could get away with anymore.

So now I'm back to square one, testing to see what my body can handle and what I should shy away from. That and making sure I get some exercise in. I'm taking baby steps... parking further away, taking stairs, that sort of thing. But it's not easy and I'm quick to find an excuse - the other day I didn't go to the gym because my daughter had gotten into trouble at school and I didn't want to reward her with a trip to the pool. So, yeah, I've got a long way to go.

Geez, didn't mean to turn this into a confessional! I just wanted you to know that some of us have been there. I wish I could say I got my diagnosis and life changed instantly but that's not how it happened. There's lots of good info here and I've found it very helpful!
