Just diagnosed

Just wanted to say hello. I have just been diagnosed as Type 2 in April. I went in for routine lab work and my fasting glucose was 363, with an A1C of 13.9% Diabetes was the last thing I ever expected.

HI Jason & Welcome.

Be sure to test your blood sugar often, limit your carbohydrate intake, and get in some form of exercise if you're not already doing so.

Welcome to the club!

Lots to learn and, maybe, some habits to change. Let us know what the doc tells you to do.

Hi Jason, welcome. Its scary to get that diagnosis...but as you'll see if you read many of the posts here that it is possible to have a healthy and happy life with it. You'll feel so much better when your numbers normalize...I didn't realize how bad I felt until I felt better.

There's a great book i'd like to recommend, "The First Year, Type 2 Diabetes," by Gretchen Becker. It is a worthwhile read. The author herself is T2 diabetic.

Also, testing regularly is SO IMPORTANT for good control. Unless you test, you have no way to know how various foods affect your blood sugar. If you test 2 hrs after your first bite of food, you'll be able to make smarter food choices.

Hang in there! The first few weeks are the hardest....in no time, this will just become a new way of life for you. Look around, ask lots of questions...we're all here to help each other.

We're here for you!! we know how it can feel when you have diabetes, the initial shock, anger, denial, the confusion about what it means for your life now and for the future, sometimes you just wish it would go away.

So good evening and welcome to the DF, a great support team on here.

Hi Jason, Welcome to DF! Glad you found us. Test often, cut back on carbohydrates, keep a diary and see an endocrinologist.
While exercise is generally a good idea, I now understand that exercising with a blood sugar greater than 200 mg/dl can actually cause more harm. The book above is a great place to start along with sites by David Mendosa... and Dr Ian Blumer...

I just wanted to say hello and welcome. I am sure you will have many questions in the next few months. Don't be afraid to ask. We all had lots of questions at first. If you ask something that has already been discussed it is all right. Some else probablly needs the answer to the same question.
Read some of the old post and you will find lots of answers to questions you did not even think to ask.
Again, welcome aboard.
