Hello

Hi,

I'm a new to the site and old to diabetes.
I was diagnosed in 2006 as a type 2?.

I became sick and tired, so I went to the ER with flu like symptoms, Sinus infection, headache, elevated heart rate, blood pressure issues, loss of appetite, weight loss, and possible overdose of nyquil cold meds.

anyway i was told I was fine with a slightly high blood pressure and sinus problem and was giving something for the headache and a otc prescription for cold meds for people with elevated blood pressure.

I soon after went back to the ER different Hospital, and was asked if i was on drugs(lol), and told I was malnourished(lol).

I went back to the first hospitals clinic and was giving a prescription for sinusitis and nasal spray(Nasonex)...still ill

I finally see my PCP@ the time, I tells him what I've been through and still feel like ****, and wanted some answers.

So I tell him, I'm on antibiotics and nasal spray, my nerves are rattled(always when i feel the slightest cold coming on) blurried vision, weight loss, loss of appetite etc..

He takes blood for lab work, rule out a couple of things and ask about family history, diabetes comes up and he ask if it run in my family I said no, and he decided to do a random non fasting blood glucose, a reading of 147, thats after I had a 16oz orange juice,(because I was battling what I thought was a cold , flu ,sinus...I don't no...).

I was told to return in a couple of days to do a fasting and ogtt.

The day of the test , I was highly stressed about finding out my results, I was still smoking and taking the antibiotics and nasonex, I smoked right before the test.

The test.... no one told me how horribly sweet the glucose serum is, because it was so sweet I sipped it and the, nurse seen I still had it in my hand and it was over half full and 15mins had past told me I was supposed to drink it quickly ( within 5-10 minutes), but it took me about 20mins.

I don't know if this effected my 1hr & 2hr readings but they were both elevated 1hr 214 & 2hr 204.

The nurse didn't adjust for the time it took me to drink the serum, the fact I was still ill with sinusitis and smoked before the test.

when my lab work came back, my blood glucose serum 83,
my a1c was 5.4 or 5.6

I have been told on three occasions I'm not diabetic, by the doctor that replaced the doc who gave the diagnosis, By that doc who replaced the doc that replaced the doctor who gave the diagnosis; and by my current doctor.

My current PCP tells me every visit that he sees nothing that indicates I'm diabetic.

My last a1c was great around 5.1, now I know that is not normal for non-diabetics.

since i've been told and giving a meter my fasting are in the 90's and when I'm stressed or wait to eat after i wake up (like an hour after) they may be as high as 110, but lately due to stress and battling a bad back and sore knee and possible sinus issue coming on, I'm in the low 100's (under110)for the last couple of mornings, My 2hr post meal's are under 140 and @ 3hr's back where they started.

I was giving metformin 500mg to take @ night by the first doctor, and was experiencing, shaky & sweaty sleep interruptions and was taken off after about a week.

I've changed my eating habits, more nutritional foods & exercise.

I'm just not sure who too believe the one doctor are the other two + my PCP

My meters bg averages out to 107 (5.3) according to my online health care team uploaded averages.

well thats about all for me.

Dump the OJ (too much sugar too fast), dump the cigs, get regular exercise, and continue eating better. Your A1C's are fine. You are fine.

Bobby,

Welcome to the forums. I agree with xMenace, your numbers seem fine and you are fine. Keep up the good work on diet and exercise. Wish I had your numbers!

Bobby,

Welcome to the forums. You seem to be doing fine. I am really proud of the changes you have made. You say you have stopped smoking and it also sounds like you have made some very positive changes in your diet. That is great. Now the ominous thing is, although all your health markers say you have normalized, your earlier test points does signal looming diabetes. Your hard work has your diabetes in remission, you just need to keep it up. Again, welcome to the forum, there are many here that have gone through similar things.

REPLY TO BOBBYDIGITAL:
Use your blood glucose meter to measure your bg about 1 and 2 hours after meals. By trial and error find the "offending foods" in your diet and replace them with better choices. This means you may have to remove or reduce some of your "comfort foods". That is the price of good health. Get the A1c below 5. A1c of 4.6 as you know, is thought to be true "healthy normal".
