Live from New York...

Hi everyone.

I'm new. 23 (going on 24 ), Type 1 since before I was 3. Paradigm pump user (still haven't worked out all the tricks with it). Got here by way of the oatmeal thread, which came up on a Google search. Will go post there next.

Jess

Basal testing?

You mean the not-eat-and-test thing, or the test-eat-wait 2 hours-test again thing?

Or something else?

Welcome to Diabetes Forums bangdrum. Glad you found us (even by way of oatmeal)!

I also use a Medtronic 715 and love it. You will learn lots here and maybe get that pump of yours fine tuned along the way.

Welcome!

The not-eat-and-test thing.

I also "profile" my meals by testing every hour or better.

I don't do this much, only when setting and reviewing my rates. I'm due for a review.

Welcome! I'm also in NYC and I'm using a Paradigm pump. How long have you been pumping?

Thank you everyone for the welcome!

I've been pumping since I was 17, right before I started college. So that would be... going on 7 years, I guess. Always Minimed, I guess originally whatever the 50X at the time was, now Paradigm 512.

I understand how to USE the pump, it's just that certain things with food (square wave boluses, for example) are still being worked out to satisfaction.

Anyway, hi.

And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

Anyway, hi.
I think with square or dual wave, it's a lot of trial & error. I know that if I'm going to be active right after I eat, I use a square wave and do not give any insulin up front. If I'm eating a meal I know if high in fat (restaurant meals, Chinese, pizza etc) then I do a dual wave, giving some insulin right away and some over time.

It won't be the same for everyone, which is why you have to experiment with the amounts & times and test, test, test!

If they are not NY bagels, then they really are not bagels.
