New to site and realatively new to type 2!

Hi,
Just an intro since I joined this site to investigate an itchy problem I'm having.
I was diagnosed as type 2 in October 2007, but thinking back on things and talking with my doctor, I've probably been undiagnosed for up to 10 years (way to go British health service).
Since about January this year I've had two arears, both small, one on my buttock and one on the inside of my thigh that ITCH!!!!! So much that I've made them bleed in my sleep!
Yes I've had the other itches most diabetics have posted about, but these seem different. Lanacain relieves the itch for, maybe, an hour, but then it's back. The only recourse I have is to really consciously not scratch, very hard indeed considering how much it itches!
Is there anyone out there had/having the same problem? Any ideas? Willing to go to a skin specialist, but, wow, have huge hospital and doctors bills already!!!!
Thanks in advance

No ideas. but I am so sorry you are having problems. Itching can be caused by so many things. From nerve damage to an allergic reaction to your bath soap or laundry detergent. I am sure some of the others can better relate to your problem and offer some solutions. I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Hope someone here can be of more help.

Hi,

Like Patricia I can't help with your immediate problem, but I did want to welcome you to the forums, it's a great place for information and support. I'm sure somebody will be able to offer some advice.

Hi Twyggers, welcome. Diabetics are prone to skin problems, and you may have a bit of eczema. You can use hydrocortisone cream to help with the itching and put lotion on the patches as much as you can. If it continues, i'd suggesting seeing a dermatologist for a definitive diagnosis...and for some prescription cream.
