| | New To This site hi everyone, I just wanted to say hi. Please be patient with me while I navigate this site..I have been diabetic for over 10 years and have been looking for a good site to get diabetic recipies. I am a chef by trade and need some good recipies for myself. I am currently following the weight watchers diet but find a lot of their foods have sugar, at least more than I am alowed. I'm hopping I will find what I need here. anyway I won't babble on just wanted to introduce myself.

| | | Welcome Sunrise! Glad you found the forums. We have lots of Canadians here, so you're in good company.
Are you currently taking meds for your diabetes? How was your last A1C?
Many here find that eating low carb (avoiding rice, bread, pasta, potatoes--you know, the "white" foods) help with good control.
We have a good recipe section here on the forum. Also, if there's something you enjoy, somebody here probably knows how to prepare it in a diabetic-friendly way.

| | new to this site Hi princess Linda, sorry I should off told you more about me.
I am Type 2 diabetic, have been for over 10 years now . I am currently on 2 needles a day: morning humanlin 30/70:32 units Evening humalin N. 14 units. I also take 2 meteformin a day..I have started weight watchers to loose weight but not all their foods are diabetic friendly . I started WW 6 weeks ago and have lost 10 lbs to date but my BS are not always great .I am beginning to have more lows than usual but still having the highs. I would like to see them more stable. so far this is the only diet that works for me. I have 40 more lbs to loose. If anyone out there has experienced this please let me know and any help along the way will help. Having fun trying to navigate the site .
Thanks,
Sunrise |

| | | I did WW several years ago, before diabetes, with decent results as long as I stayed with the program. Now, I think it might be a little more difficult for me carb-wise though i've not seen their new offerings.
I think we sometimes get in the "diet" mentality, which gives the idea that its a "temporary" thing, and after we reach our weight goal we can stop it...unfortunately for us, we're in it for the long haul, so instead of dieting, we have to come up with a way of eating that we can do long-term.
I've lost more weight by watching the carbs I consume and getting regular exercise than I ever did on WW, S. Beach or First Place.

| | | Welcome, Sunrise. I think you'll find that a Chef is more popular than a doctor for sites like these. We all have doctors, so that's nothing spectacular... however, we all want to get ideas from a Chef on how to make bland foods taste good. Hehehe.
Welcome aboard. I am from the States, however I have a lot of friends in the Toronto area.
Regards,
