| | New to the forums Hi Everybody,
I'm a new diabetic, diagnosed in Jan., the first in my family. In Jan. my AlC was 11.87, in April it was 7.38, taking Metformin 500mg twice a day. I've found my diabetes to be odd, my numbers are not effected by potatos or good brands of ice cream (including ice cream cake from Coldstone). My numbers run from 100 - 120 in the mornings. I've started taking a ton of vitamins hoping to eventually get off the Metformin. Since Christmas I've lost 5" off my waist, but only 20 lbs. Is this just odd to me? I'm 6' 1" & weight 220 now, with a 33" waist. Everybody says I've lost a ton of weight & when I tell them how much they think I'm kidding. Anybody else seeing some of these symptoms? |

| | | Welcome Dave, glad you found the forums.
Lots of times with ice cream, the fats slow things down, causing the blood sugars to rise AFTER the 2 hr point. I've had really good ice cream with good 2 hr readings, but at 3 hrs, it starts creeping up. Same with pizza. Try your 3 or 4 hr reading and see if its still good...if so, you're quite lucky!
I still have the occasional small serving of premium icecream, but I know that more than one small scoop and i'm over the 140 mark 2 hrs later.
