| | Newbie =] Hey everyone, I'm new to this thing, and don''t know why I didn't join this forum sooner! I was diagnosed with type 1 Feb. 2007 and have been having some major issues...blood sugar issues to be exact. It's like a fricken roller-coaster that I can't ever get off! ugh. Anyway, I was just wondering...I get a lot of lows and highs, but the lows are weird...I can't feel them anymore, and before I know it, my bg's so low I can't believe I'm still alive. How come I don't seizure or anything? Not that I want to, just curious. My lowest reading's been 13....and I can't even believe my meter could read it.... |

| | | Welcome.
Been there & done that.
What's your regimen like? Typically whacky control is traced back to gaps in basal coverage. Do you have insurance? A pump is the way to go as you can tailor dosage to your needs in fine detail. |

| | | Humulog with every meal (3), lantus before bed. The exercise is sometimes the cause of the lows, but I even get lows on my non-training days. And my insurance is HMSA...I don't know how much it would cover...and thank you very much for the advice. |

Many have a carb ratio for their insulin. (example 1 unit per 10 grams of Carbs) Also how many units of Lantus are you taking?

| | | Right now I'm adjusting it based on my insulin/carb ratio: mine is 2 units per 10 grams carbs, but I want to get back to a set dose each meal-I felt way better when I was doing that...and 16 units lantus at night. |

| | | What are your fasting numbers like? I'm thinking that your basal insulin may need to be adjusted. Consult with your Endo/Dr. before making any changes. Also whats your diet like?

| | | my fasting numbers vary...but mostly highs, 140's-190's. i tried to give myself like, a half unit or 1 unit more when my numbers are high to balance it out at meals, but it always either skyrockets or plummets. i think i'm not doing something right... and my diet is 3 main meals: oatmeal and egg whites for breakfast, a sandwich and fruit for lunch, and whatever's available for dinner. sometimes almonds or a banana for a snack. and yes, i have an app. with my endo today, so i'll consult with her also. thank you for helping me out, bt way, i really appreciate it. =] |

| | | If I had to guess, I would say that you are still honeymooning, and that your lantus needs adjusting. Discuss with your doctor about incrementally increasing your doses. Also check out some of the threads on here about Dawn Phenomenon.
