Anytime, Sammy.
how are you doing with the veggie menus? Sometimes the quality of prepared food (like veggie burgers) is, ummm, variable . I prefer Quorn - particularly now since the bacon is low in carbs* .
I hope that you're feeling alright, and there are plenty more hugs where that came from .

Welcome to the forums
I really hope you'll get everything under control real soon! I'd say, get off the mix, and get some nice basal and bolus insulins instead, and do the best you can with that. You'll feel a lot better when being more stable and being able to have more flexibility. Or maybe look into getting a pump! I know getting one in the UK is about as easy as finding a cure for T1 (not far from it anyways as far as i've read on here from people in the UK), but it could be worth a shot to try getting one.

i was on levemir and novorapid but i couldnt handle the four a day shots
and at the beginning i was on novomix 30, that just made me feel sick all the time.
and then i tried humalog mix25 and now im on humalog mix50. its ok im having a lot of hypos when i do take it though.
yeah when i go to the diabetes clinic here, i have only ever seen one person who was on the pump. there cool but i dunno bout them i would like to have one one day

yeah i prefer quorn also, im loving the quorn sausages lol real nice and only about 58 cals per sauasage
yeah some of the veggie burgers are a bit funny and give me bad stomach but others are ok lol.
i like them quorn meatballs aswell and i have tried them in a curry quite nice

and im ok thanks

Do you think you could cope with more shots now? Once you get more confidence in dealing with your diabetes, you'll probably find that seperate basal and bolus give you greater freedom, and much better control .

You might like to try Tesco's meat-free bacon - low carbs and cals, crisp up lovely, taste great with eggs .
Personally, I think a meal can never have too much quorn mince .
The cats aren't so impressed with veggie substitutes, although they will have a good munch of mashed potato, or even beans .

Take care,
Jen

Hi, Sammy, and welcome!

Part of the problem with your shots may be that the doc has you on an insulin mix instead of separate long (basal) and rapid-acting acting insulins. The mixes are bad for two reasons. First, they make it hard to get good control, and second, the NPH that is in the mix is nototrious for having huge spikes about 4 hours after injection (time varies by person). Bottom line- ask your doctor if you can be on something like Lantus or Levemir for a basal, and Novolog or Humalog (or similar- they may have different names in GB) for a rapid-acting.

Oh ****, now just because everyone in here is talking about Quorn, i'll have to go and buy some! Or maybe i should buy some Sesame nuggets I'm not vegetarian these days, but i was for a couple of months 5 years ago now, and Quorn and soy products are delicious! Basically the only vegetarian option i don't like is Falafel... And i'm not a huge fan of Quorn mince... But soy sausage, corn beef, soy "meat" balls and Sesame nuggests are just too good
Sorry for being

grrrrrrr at you joel lol

that meat free bacon sounds yum might go see if i can get some now lol well not now it 10pm lol

nah i dont think i can be doing 4 shots a day just yet i only just changed to mix again.

control is harder but im working closely with my diabetes nurse and going to see her on monday at the clinic to talk about my blood sugars. was supposed to be taking my partner but she split up with me id rather not take her anyway. im not so open about my diabetes never have been i cant even inject infront of anyone have to do it in the bathroom. how embarrsing.
anyway my sugars are still high this week around 11 and 15.and then sometimes before i sleep i will have real lows the lowest this week being 1.9 :\ eeekkk lol i hardly felt that one coming on either which scares me a little. and i have only missed one shot all this week which is good for me. i have a little trouble not taking my injections which ill be getting help for that and my eating and other things. its just scary :\

i hope everyone else is ok

You really need to take care of yourself. Try to talk into yourself that 4 shots a day isn't too bad, seeing how good it feels to have within range bloodsugars. You might not give a **** now, but in 20 years you'll wish you did give a **** now. I know it sounds harsh, but it is the reality.

We can help and support you on here, but the only one who can do something about your diabetes management is you.
Try to analyze yourself a bit. Why are you having problems taking your insulin? Is it the needles? Or inconvenience? Simply don't want to? When it comes to injecting in public, it's all about just doing it really. If people wants to stare, it's their problem, not yours. You have all the right to feel well and live a healthy life just like everyone else, you just happen to be a diabetic who needs to take insulin to feel well and live a healthy life. Memorise some lines you can use if people throw comments or ask questions, because you will meet people who are either just curious, sometimes mean, or really missinformed about this disease.
Try to build up your self confidence a bit. Diabetes is nothing to be ashamed of! Try to make it to something positive instead

Sorry for long post

Feel free to PM me anytime if you want to

I am a little leery of engineered foods such as Quorn. It has not been well tested. It is a fungus originally found in soil and there have been reported reactions. And yes, I have tried it. They have done a great job of making processed foods that taste like real meat. We are quick to demand testing with drugs, but very trusting if something is 'derived' from something out of the ground.

I am a little lost as I watch my daughter seek out all these soy, mycoprotein and corn based engineered and highly processed food items that mimic real meat based food items. If you are really interested in being a vegetarian why do this?
