...but my brother is Type 1 and has been there for more than forty years. He is now 67 years old. I am here to see if I can find any info that will help him as he ages, especially with weight control, which is extremely difficult for him. He's not too keen on visiting forums but he needs the help...so here I am.
Toni, Welcome to DF. Visit the forums and try doing search about any topic here. Hopefully you find answers for all your questions. If not, just ask here and I'm sure you will get the answer in minutes (if not seconds)
I and others are starting to succeed by lowering our carbs and by eating food, not manufactured food-like substances. Watch my videos. There's lots of hot low-carb talk going on, actually has been for awhile.
I am T2 but I suggest you try to get him to exercise (play, yes adult need to play) at least 30 minutes each day. This can be as simple as walking for 10 minutes 3 times a day. Have him to start slow and be sure to watch his BG to make sure it is not too high or too low. Also try to make sure he eats right. When he eats bread or pasta it should be whole wheat, If he eats rice it should be brown rice. Sweets should be saved for special occasions. Just a few changes can make a big difference. If this doesn't help, he might need to talk to the doctor he could be insulin resistant and there are meds that can help that.
