| | | hi new member here So i was browsing and looking for some information on diabetes and i ran across this site and thought i should apply and give it a try. The whole diabetes thing is still kind of new to me i was only diagnosed 4-5 months ago and am still learning how to control things. It does run in my family my grandma had it but i never thought i'd get it...Guess again. Well i'm just looking for other people to connect to and ideas on how to manage it because 5 months in i'm still having a hard time adjusting. And it's hard when there's no one else you know that has it. So i guess i'll leave this here and just say Hello to everyone. |

| | | Hi and welcome to the forums, a great place for information, help and support. The people here are always ready to help.
As you are new to this, could I suggest you check out a book called "The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes" by Gretchen Becker, it was recommened to me when I joined the forums and I found it easy to read and very informative.
Are you testing regularly? How are your numbers?

| | | Welcome Missmorbid! Glad you found the forums. It takes a little time to get used to diabetes and all it entails, but it does get easier as time passes.
I second the recommendation for the book Dave recommends...its an easy yet informative read.
Are you currently on meds for your diabetes?
Hope you post often and ask lots of questions. We're here to help each other.

| | | yeah i'm testing every time i eat as well as taking metformin and glipizide 2-3 times a day. and my numbers can be pretty sparatic at times especially when i slip up... sometimes when your on the run and not thinking clearly you forget when new with it..especially at 18 when your everyehere at once lol... but i will deffinately look into that book mentioned ty very much for the recomendation. but i'm hoping i'm getting it undercontrol... it was a real scare when i got diagnosed... i didn't know i had it and went to the hospital for something else and was admidted with a sugar of 650. i think that and watching waht my grandma went through scared me into doing everytihing i can to manage it... but thank you all for the warm welcome it's greatly appreciated. and a nice thing to know when you feel lost with things.

| | | Brittney,
You do need time to adjust to your new life style, but you can and will do it. It can be overwhelming but it really does get better.
Aside from the book, I strongly recommend visiting here often. This forum (and the people here) has been such a source of support, information and motivation for me since I was diagnosed, you are part of the DF family now and your new brothers and sisters will always be here to help you. It does help having a place to go where people understand what you are going through.
Come here to laugh, learn, share and vent.
