bay area help??

Hi everyone, brand new to this...diagnosed with type 1 about 2 months ago and very overwhelmed right now. can anyone recommend a good endocrinologist and/or nutritionist in the san francisco bay area? I am so not happy with my doctor right now. After spending a few days at The Joslin Clinic in Boston I realized just how bad my Dr. is. Im on a fixed amt of humalog 3x a day and 14 of lantus at night....struggling from bad hypo almost everyday and gaining weight from it. things are not going well. i almost feel worse then when i was diagnosed.

I live in Santa Rosa, not sure where you live but my doctor is Dr. Baginsky and he's amazing! I recommend him 100% !!! Write me a private message if you are interested!
Good luck!

Hi Shelby, It sounds like you need to find a new doctor. A fixed amount of humalog is crazy for a type one. We don't eat the same thing every day! I live in Northern CA and not the San Francisco Bay area, but we do have some members that live in that area that will chime in, I am sure.

Generally, people with type one will take a fixed amount of a basal insulin and bolus a fast acting insulin depending on the carbohydrate count of a meal. It is no wonder you are going hypo every day.

Take time to sit and read old posts on this site. Look at the archives.

Glad you found us!

Hi Shelby. Welcome to the group.

You are right next door to one of the best diabetes centers in the country! UCSF Diabetes Center, 505 Parnassas Avenue. When I lived in Northern California, I met a wonderful doctor there that I saw for years. He is not there anymore, but I highly recommend the program. It's cutting edge, like Joslyn.

I agree with notme. A fixed amount of Humalog for a T1 is just plain wrong. Maybe he didn't want to overwhelm you with too much stuff, but hypos are very serious. You should be adjusting your Humalog based on your BG and carb intake. It's not hard to do, it just takes patience and a few weeks of logging everything you eat and your BGs and exercise. Search the forums for things like "ratio" and "I:C" and you should find lots of info.

I live in Marin (San Rafael)... where are you?.. If you have Kaiser, I like my Endo... my co-worker also happens to be T1, she lives in SF proper (also has Kaiser) but I can ask her if she likes her Endo..
