Can I have breast lifts with diabetis type 2?

Hi everyone. I am a 45 years old type 2 diabetic, and I would like to have my breats lifted. Would that be possible for me? will my scars heal?. I am ashamed of my breast and it´s hard to live like this. Can anyone help me?.

Elisi, welcome to the forums. I moved your post to its own thread, so you'll get more responses.

I would think if your blood sugars are well-controlled and your general overall health is otherwise good, you should be able to have any procedure with minimal risks of post-op complications.

If your blood sugars are poorly controlled, you would run the risk of having slower-healing surgical wounds.

I'd suggest checking with your internist, and then requesting consultation with a reputable plastic surgeon. Do make sure both are well-aware of your medical history.

I am so sorry you feel so bad about yourself. I agree with Princess Linda. I think you would be all right as long as you are in good health and have good control of your blood sugar. Let us know what you decide and what the doctor says. Good luck.

Hi Elisi,

Welcome to the forum. We're glad you found us.

You should be able to have any procedure you choose, but like Linda said, it would be necessary to tightly control your blood sugar during that time. You may have to skip treats, or even use insulin during the healing period (your doctor could tell you if and how.)

It may take you longer to heal. A good friend of mine just had a breast reduction and feels so much better about herself. She also doesn't need to buy industrial strength underwear anymore. Sometimes such surgery really makes a difference in a person's life.

Again, welcome.

Mich
