My husband is a Type 1 diabetic and he is actually the only diabetic we know personally. We are really interested in finding friends that can understand what he goes through and someone we can talk to. We live in Northeast Florida. We met in August of 2000 and in December of 2000 he was diagnosed. It has been very rough on him he was 15 when he found out and he had a hard time adjusting to it. I almost lost him when i was 6 months pregnant with our son and that was a bit of an eye opener for him. Since then he has been very carefully taking care of himself but its still difficult sometimes. And i try to help but sometimes i just CAN'T understand what he is going through. |

| | | Hi Mrs. T1,
And welcome to your husband too. Invite him to get involved here. We're all in the same boat and this is a great place to get to know other diabetics. We are all ages and all permutations of diabetes, so he may enjoy chatting also.
Having children seems to be a high point in everyone's life. For those of us with diabetes or other health complications, it does tend to bring things into focus. Good for him for realizing how important he will be as a dad!
We're glad you found us.

| | | Hi Mrs.Type1,
Welcome to the forums, I think it is great that you are trying to better understand what you husband is going through. I also think it is good that you can be honest and admit "sometimes i just CAN'T understand what he is going through." That's perfectly understandable, but the fact that you accept that you can't understand it is good.
Is there anything in particular that you need help with? It might also be a help to your husband if he was to join us here.

| | Hi Mrs T1, Welcome and congrats for wanting to learn more about your husbands health problems. Wish I was in FL and could talk in person. THis is a good site. Take time to research some type 1 threads. Keep reading and remind him to test and do be helpful by cooking the types of foods that make it easy for him to choose to eat wisely.

| | I will try to get my husband involved if i can. He works alot and does not have much free time. I am a stay-at-home mom so i can be on here as much as i want. The thing we really want is to meet other people pur age with this disease. We are also looking for advice on our son. We have problems with having high and low blood sugar since he was 8 months old or so. I have seen my 2 year old's blood sugar be as high and 280 and as low as 20 and it took us about 45 minutes to an hour to get his BS back up to just 70 that was with fruit juice and peanut butter i think there was some cake frosting involved that time as well. The doctors just keep telling us that he is too young to have diabetes which we know is bull. He eats like a grown man and doesnt gain any weight. He drinks constantly he has to always have a drink. He has gained all of 2 pounds maybe from his 1st birthday to his 2nd. They have checked him for numerous thyroid conditions but they refuse to check for diabetes. Even with my husbands extensive family history. So we dont know what to do. |
