| | Necrobiosis Lipoidica Hi Everyone!
I'm new to this forum and am posting my first thread. I was recently diagnosed with Necrobiosis Lipoidica after having a skin biopsy however was told that my blood test for diabetes at this time was clear. I've just been to the chemist to pick up a prescription and while I was there I had one of their quick diabetes tests where they prick your finger and test the blood - the result was 9.9 - should I be worried?
Thanks for any replies as I couldn't find anything about this type of test on the net. |

| | | Welcome to the forum!
9.9 mmol/L (179 mg/dL) does not seem normal. For a non-diabetic, a random test does not normally show a reading above 8 mmol/L (144 mg/dL).
Regards,
Rad

| | | Dear rebdavis -
I'm writing to you from Canada, and like yourself was recently diagnosed with Necrobiosis Lipoidica. I do not have diabetes, and have had that confirmed via blood tests, and eye exam. I am absolutely shocked that I've actually found someone with the same diagnosis. I have been searching for weeks for information, and have found nothing. Where I have found information, it has been rather scary, and not very promising. I'm not sure what you know, or how you're handling all of this but I'd love to talk to you further about this all. If you're into sharing more of your story with me perhaps I could give you my email address.
I still can't believe I've found someone who shares in this disease....I was beginning to think I was the only one, and I have in fact, actually written to a doctor in Georgia, USA who has written articles on this disease!
WOW! I'm still in shock that I've come across this post.
Please respond to this, and I will forward you my email address.
Also, I wasn't clear by your post - Do you have diabetes, or are they still testing you for that? I understand these disease is prevalent in diabetic women, however it is and has occurred in women that are diabetes-free.
I can't believe this - I seriously have been searching and looking for weeks for someone who has this, or knows something about it....
I look forward to hearing back from you
Apologies if I sound crazily excited... It's been a frightening and lonely few weeks since my diagnosis....
Warmest regards, KD |

| | | Welcome both of you.
Don't get too concerned about a random 9.9 at a chemists:
- meters can have 20% variances
- the chemists' meter is quite possibly a relic
- you likely didn't wash your hands
- you likely used an alcohol swab, we don't recommend that for various reaons
- you may have just eaten or had some other logical BG raising event. Some yo'd have no idea about.
If you are concerned, get your Hemoglobin A1C done at your next bloodwork. |

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter. Buddy 7 Essex uk | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
