first time to post

Hi there, I have been looking around the forum for a while, so I guess its time to say hi. This is my first time in any kind of a forum, so I am new to this.

I have learned a lot in the last few months about diabetes and this forum has helped a lot. So far I think I am doing OK in controlling my blood sugar, but dont know if I need to try some meds in the future.

Five months ago my A1c was 14.7, two months ago was 6.3, lost about 25 pounds, low carb diet and 5 days/week exercise. I see the doc again next month. Should I try to postpone meds for a while longer? I am a 58 year old male. Thanks for your input.

Hi and well done! Sounds like you've got things nicely on the way to good control.

If you can avoid the meds it's a good thing to do since they can come with side effects. It will likely depend on how much more you can improve your bgls with diet and exercise.

Hi and Welcome to DF!
Great progress
How often each day, do you test your BG levels? How have they been?

Hi all, thanks for the encouragement. I test 4 times/day. Usually about 135 before breakfast, 150-160 two hours later, then I work out on the eliptical for an hour, and I am at 85 to 95. After dinner I am usually at 100 to 115.

From what I have read, I suppose that I have dawn phenomena since my fasting BG in the morning is almost always higher than at night, unless I am >150 when I go to bed. I am still learning....

Keep up the good work! I didn't for the first ten years and let my D get out of control. Now with exersize, diet, pills and insulin I'm getting in control(last A1C 6.3) but it's been a long and hard fight to make up for years of sticking my head in the ground!
