Question new member

Hi,
I just signed up. I was diagnosed with type 2 about three years ago. My blood sugar is under control and I am doing fine. I lost 50 lbs before I was diagnosed, but have since put 40 back on. I know I have slacked off on my eating habits and my exercise is down. I take Metformin-2 500mg tabs twice a day.
I have two questions, does anyone have a suggestion as to a diet that would help with weight loss?
The second question(on another subject)I am thinking about getting a tattoo, any comments?

Welcome to the forum. Hope you find lots of advice here. I don't know about tattoos but I did see a post by someone that may answer your question.
I had to see a weightloss doctor to lose any weight. B12 injection give me a little more energy so I am able to do more exercise. She also has me taking chromium to help with control of my blood glucose. I also take metforminEr 500 two times a day. It has taken me 2 months to lose 7 pounds.

Hi there. I basically went on a low carb diet about 5 months ago and have lost 20kgs. I read a book by Dr Sandra Cabot called Reversing Diabetes Naturally. You can google it and purchase on her website. So far it has worked for me as I find I can eat a good variety of food and I have learnt a lot about keeping the blood sugar low and decreasing my weight.
I guess my major challenge is going to be to keep going as I have found that my weight loss has slowed down a lot over the past 3-4 weeks. Exercise has never really been my thing but it is what I am going to have to do next to keep getting the weight off. I could easily lose another 30-40 kilos to get to a more healthy weight.
I have found though that my concentrating on my blood sugar levels rather than weight loss I have not been obsessed with the scales and that has really helped me.
But I guess we are all different....
So, good luck and hope whatever you do works for you.

Patricia,
Thank you for your input. I wonder if MetforminER is the same as my meds?

Red face

Exercise is a problem for me as I have a couple of fused vertebra in my lower back. I used to ride my bike a lot but have gotten away from it. Something I need to start doing again. There really is no excuse for not riding here in San Diego!
Thank you for sharing.

Hey Geoffrey!! hello, good evening and welcome to the forum, I'm so pleased you've join us, a great site, warm and friendly people, I'm sure you'll like it here.

It's so sad to see you've regain the weight, sometimes having this condition can be very frustrating, there's no doubt diabetes requires a great deal of responsibility self-management and self-discipline, eating a balance diet, in your case managing your weight, and following a healthy lifestyle, together with taking any prescribed medication and monitoring where appropriate will benefit your health enormously, losing your weight again has to be imperative for you, it will help control your diabetes and reduce the risk of further diabetes complications.

Never had a tattoo my-self, couldn't give you the appropriate answer you're looking for, however! having a tattoo, I'm told, draws blood, in our business, pricking ourselves comes quite naturally, for monitoring our BGs, shan't be a problem for you, having said that.
Infection springs to mind, be safe and sensible choose a reputable company to have your tattoo done.

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter.
