hi

I recently found out that I have type 2. I am having to readjust my life and it is nice to see so many people going through the same thing. I have been looking through alot of the posts and replies and I am really impressed with how much everyone seems to look out for one another. I am looking forward to my time here. Hope everyone has a great day.

Welcome Joshua. I am fairly new here myself and your observations are exactly what brought me to join this fine group of folks. We are all traveling along this rocky road and we can all use the help of others. Good luck with all of your efforts. If you have any questions, be sure to ask away, someone here has experienced the same things and is more than willing to assist.

Hi princess Linda. I am 33, married and have one daughter who is 5. My wife's brother has been type 1 since he was a teenager so she is taking it all in stride.

As for managing, I ate alot of sweets (candy specifically) so my first step was cutting that back. My doctor is going to put me on metformin but I am first trying to get an understanding of my blood sugar levels so I am testing myself throughout the day. In the meantime, I have started exercising more frequently and am trying to get more fibre into my diet. Maybe you can guys can help me out. I have spending alot of time on the internet (how I can across this site) trying to learn as much as I can. I see that there is many different fibre supplements that you can add to your diet. Things like metamucil, PGX, glucomannan. Do any of these things work or help? Or maybe something I have not heard about?

it would be great to get some answers before I spend any money.

Hey Joshua... Welcome to DF! I had to look twice when I saw the name as my son's name is also Joshua and our surname starts with a G

Cutting out sweet things was good move, also look at cutting out or at least down on starchy and sweet foods like bread, potatoes, pasta, rice, cereals and juices - your BG level will thank you for it and as you reduce the amount of sugars you eat you will find you have less cravings for it as well.

Eat plenty of green vegetables (watch the dressing for sugars) and you don't need fibre supplements!

Learn to read nutrition labels - our local supermarkets have in-house dietitians who teach label reading.

Cut down on carbs which are really just chains of sugars.

Good Luck!

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter.

Welcome from Texas! You have found an excellent place for support and information. Do you have a meter yet? If not, get one and test, test, test.
