I get lower BG Numbers : )

Hi all

I'm from the UK, 46 years old diagnosed Type 1 out of the blue May this year. The 42lb weight loss was welcome as was the news of diabetes after all the things that were running around in my head.

A1c was 18 at diagnosis now down to 4.8 with tight diet controls and of course the insulin. I've taken up cycling and am with out doubt in better shape than I have been for the last 26 years : )

Hope I'll have someting to contribute here

Regards

well done on the fantastic a1c results! they are phenomenal.

i have just started on insulin after 18 months of trying diet and oral meds. they worked OK - but insulin makes life a lot easier PLUS it is more natural than drugs.

how much insulin (and what types) do you take?

Great job! Glad it's going so well for you. What kind of diet are you following to get such great numbers?

Thanks for the BIG welcome : )

As for diet I eat the same boring food ( and amounts) day in day out ... well through the week anyway. No snacks, no liquids except full skimmed milk and mint tea. Breakfast consists of a small amount of home made muesli, lunch two slices of bread with low fat filling such as meat or egg, evening meal is generally rice or pasta with chicken or pork.

For the weekends I add a curry and some beer/wine.

Insulin as required to keep BG below 6 (about 108mg/dL)

Many people will try to tell you what you can’t eat with diabetes.
Most will be well-meaning.
Rather than compounding the problem by telling you what you should
eat, I’d recommend a simpler method, eat by your meter.
